    • I voted "other" because I think we should only replace Vizcaino if there is a decent replacement out there.

One big issue that I have with Vizcaino is that his kicks are often early left with late break to the left. If you draw a line perpendicular to the two end zones and run it through the ball, it seems like Vizcaino sets up a little closer to that line than some other kickers do. This has the effect of making it more difficult for the kicker to open up his hip, which naturally tends to increase the likelihood that the ball will go to the left when kicked.

Adding to that problem is that our special teams have failed to block effectively against the rush from our offensive right side as rushers get close a little too frequently when coming from that side, which makes the kicker not want to start the ball further to the right (allowing the kicker to compensate while using the same mechanics), which also causes the ball to be kicked more to the left.

Given the above described blocking, Chase McLaughlin would be the perfect FG kicker for us because he consistently hits a ball that starts out to the left, but then fades back to the right (versus Vizcaino's hooking kicks). Unfortunately, McLaughlin seems to be kicking for Cleveland at this time.

As a non-NFL coaching layperson, it surprises me that we have not spotted/fixed either problem (Vizcaino's kicking mechanics and the right sided blocking on FGs and extra points) because both seem to exist.

One concern/issue that I can think of is that it was stated by someone (it may have been Jay Feely, but I honestly do not recall) that Vizcaino is a little slow to the ball, so I could speculate that if there is that concern, there may be a concern about slightly increasing his distance from the ball (by moving him a few inches closer to the sideline) in terms of not having his kicks blocked. But that is pure speculation on my part.

I've also seen the right side of protection breakdown on more than 1 kick and I think he sees that so overcompensates by kicking it left. maybe they need to tighten up the right side blocking.

I remember Feeley saying that, too. Feeley is kind of a jerk, so I just wrote it off to him being who he is and nitpicking. But maybe he really is on to something.

The problem is that all of those guys are available for a reason. Please avoid Bailey at all costs. He was cut last year after posting a career low 68% conversion rate on kicks and missed 7 kicks in a 2 game stretch.

In the playoffs i would trust more in a veteran than in vizcaino

I agree with Rich - all those guys are free agents for a reason

And if Vizcaino does last the season - he will be more prepared for the playoffs than he is now. He is 6 games into his career. He does need time to grow and get better.

I heard on the radio that the Chargers are the 7th team that has has Vizcaino on a roster. Seventh. He has only actually played for us and SF for a game. But wow.

Remember, before the Bolts, Vizzy only played one pro game, with the Niners. He did make 3/3 on figgies in that game, at the end of last season. In college ball, at Washington, he was 12/19 figgies in 2017 for only 63%...not too good...and he was a punter and kickoff specialist the year before...not a large body of work you'd like to see...Vizzy is, IMHO, like a raw college rookie, experience-wise...can he be coached up fast enough? Don't know...but if he starts costing us games, I'm afraid we'll have to cut him loose...

Popper notices the protection issue too.

One thing I will add: The Chargers have been giving up a ton of pressure off the right side of their field goal protection. That was a factor in Vizcaino’s first missed extra point Sunday against the Browns. As is often the case with football, this issue is more layered than just an individual player’s performance. But Vizcaino has to be better. There is no doubt about that.

6th team…two stints with Cincy. It’s a bunch of practice squad and Reserves/Futures contracts.

I’d like to move on, but I’ll trust in Staley.
