    Mike Williams #81

Man. Such an interesting career. I thought it was a fantastic pick coming out of Clemson.

Then comes a very mediocre career. Now he's in his contract year and having the best season of his career by a LONG shot.

Is it MW stepping up for a contract or is he finally developing into a reliable top shelf receiver???

I doubt he sandbagged for a few years, but here is my take on MW: it is coming down to economics with the salary cap, regardless of the prior years he had, and even this year. we need a better defense and his new contract value could go towards that defense. i think it is less about him and more about how Palmer and Guyton look as replacements for his playing time (or a possible draft pick to help replace him). if some team wants to overpay him based on his highlight film, he will be too expensive for our economics. i think it is questionable if he has been consistent enough THIS YEAR to overpay him at the expense of our defense. he has had less than 5 catches in half of our games this year (7 games) and 3 or fewer catches in 5 of our 14 games (3 catches against KC in our biggest game in years).

however, when he makes a big play, he does look like a definite keeper, so our front office better think about this carefully.

Cant blame Mdub's production in previous years when the only time Phil threw to him was 3rd and forever jump balls.

I prefer to use the money to get better RT & RG instead...

(I don't think we need top receivers for an excellent QB. A very solid OL will benefit him more...)

        Go Bolts!!!

          1) I am not going to franchise him
          2) This past offseason I thought at the time he was a 46/4 type player. At one point I might have stretched to 50/52 just with a rising cap
          3) Now, I am going to let him test the market as to me, not consistent enough, has dropped so many passes this year - especially inside the 5. That doesn't mean I am giving up on him but I think for the money some team will pay him - let him test the market.

If Telesco can’t find someone equal or better than sign Williams.

I think we can all agree this team isn’t good enough to take a step backwards.

Some interesting FA WRs going to be on the market.

              Davante Adams $26.5m/year https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/green-ba.../market-value/
              Chris Godwin $18.3m/year https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/tampa-ba.../market-value/
              Allen Robinson $16.5m/year https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/chicago-.../market-value/

If the above guys are too expensive, here is an intriguing option who I think is underrated due to the situation in JAX

              DJ Chark $11.9m/year https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/jacksonv.../market-value/

CHARK is interesting coming off this season ending knee injury. Size, speed, and about a 60% catch rate with less than premium QB play.
He and A. Robinson are my top 2 FA WRs to replace MikeDub, if we go that route.

Based on those name, I would pay Godwin 18m over Mike Williams for 15m.

The Chark name is interesting - as you are right, with a better QB, he might produce better number. I think with WR the Chargers can be selective and not feel they have to do anything too quickly with MW81

I can't see spanos paying for 2 20 million per year receivers.

Palmer was drafted to be MW's replacement.

MW will walk and I guess we get a comp pick.

                    That's my prediction anyways

Chark suffered a broken ankle in October and has been on IR since week 4. He is tall and lanky and has sub 4.4 speed. He was a Pro Bowler his 2nd season in 2019, with 1,008 yds and 8 TDs. Because of his injury this year and due to generally subpar QB play in Jax, he hasn't reached his full potential IMO. He could be an under the radar find who and really blossom with a good QB.

I'll call it more opportunities than previous years in a new offense. He has a career high in targets this season being used more in this offense.
