Could also mean that Staley is saddled with DT Jerry Tillery and LB Kenneth Murray - two professional football players, each with astonishingly low football IQs on his roster - that he discovers to his own horror are untouchable by management - and it's easier to put the blame on himself rather than the two grinning idiots that chose both in the 1st Round.

To tackle the question in that manner, was IMO, dodging biting the hand that feeds.

Telesco said he overestimated the transition period for the defense. He thought it would be faster for the defense versus the offense. And literally the opposite happened.

This thread is about someone on the special teams side of the ball, not the defense. Things are all over the place when users aren't talking about a subject in their appropriate place.

We did good with Hopkins and Roberts, but we might not have one or both of them after this season.

Special teams isn't just the return game and the kicking game. There's the other parts of the phase; the coverage unit and blocking the opponents FG or XP attempt. I want to see the team do better in blocking the opponent's kick.

We’ve had several ST coaches during Telesco’s tenure and the team always sucks

it’s the players Telesco gets. Just like Staley went from coaching the #1 defense to one of the worst the following year.

coaches always get blamed for the team coming up short when it’s clear the GM sucks in building a complete roster.

John Spanos at least equally shares the blame if not more!

Have to agree with this. The quality of backups on this team has been horrible for a decade.
