Or just play an extra 15 minutes. Too simple?

          agree with that, but....

the only reason the NFL changed the OT rules in first place was because precious peyton manning lost to the lowly Chargers in that playoff game where Chargers won the toss and scored a TD..... therefore kicking colts out of playoffs and denying the NFL and media of the manning vs brady championship game that most had anticipated......

lets look at what happens today ....

lets say you have the 2 of the best QB's and offenses playing each other...... both offenses are so great, neither team punts and only turnovers stop either team from scoring....trading scores all game long....(even some of the average offenses can drive and score when needed in OT and in OT, defenses, even good ones, are many times gassed)....

so they are tied at end of regulation..... team that wins toss scores a TD...... the other team responds by scoring a TD to tie again....... so we are now tied in OT like at end of game..... does game continue with team that scored the first overtime TD getting the ball? or do we have a coin toss???....... either way, the team that wins the toss or gets that 3rd OT possession will likely win the game.....will it be sudden death or do we just play until time runs out???

I personally think that teams should play until time runs out...... and if tied again do another OT..... some teams can used up an entire 10 min on a drive...... so maybe the OT should be 15 minutes like any other quarter...... sudden death in this era where defenses cannot stop anyone is not fair..... in the '70's defenses could stop offenses so it used to be fair.....

there are not a ton of OT games and the increased chances for injury issue is not a big factor..... if injuries were that big an issue, there would not be any thursday night games which are far more of an increased injury issue......

What does 2OT mean, play 2 OT quarters? Playoffs cannot end in a tie

You play quarters until someone wins at the end, like NHL.

Players union won't go for that. Just do something similar to college. I don't see what's wrong with it now actually. At least both teams get a chance.

Get rid of the coin toss.
Should be rock-paper-scissors between the team captains.
Best 2 out of 3 of course.

The way they play it in college.
I think the CFL has it too.
It would not be the first time NFL learns from another league.

The coin toss for OT is stupid. The rules are stupid. I have never like overtime rules.

Why not give the visiting team 1st possession at the 50. If the offense turns the ball over the opposing team gets the ball at the 50 all they need is a field goal to win.

Now if it is something like a pick 6 then the game is over.

1st possession you can fail to score and if the other team scores game over.
1st possession if you can only get a field goal then the home team will have a chance to tie with a field goal or win with a touchdown
1st possession if the visitors go down and score a td. Then there is only one chance for the home team tie with a td or lose the game.

I think there would be some amazing overtime games with this scenario.

How about they just keep playing the game with whoever had the ball, remove the coin flip. Treat it like 1st or 3rd quarter - switch ends and play the next snap in the series, be it 1st 2nd 3rd down whatever. Except that would drastically change how the team with the ball at the end of Q4 plays - they don’t need to try and score at the risk of giving up the ball. Yeah - that would just be a different clusterfuck unintended consequence.
yeah fantasy football OT, actually if it was only a set number of offensive snaps in OT let them count. Nothing wrong with the league embracing fantasy football it a huge component of the leagues success.

but I do kind of like this idea you bring up extend the game sudden death OT without the coin flip. On offense you still risk win lose or tie at the end of a one possession game. If the game is tied just keep playing. So what if teams decide to go for the win more often because they don’t want to risk giving the ball back in a tie. I don’t see that as much of a cluster fuck. So what if a team isn’t racing the clock at the end of the game because it’s tied. It’s just more game strategy , I don’t see it as bad. It’s just more fair and keep the players from having to play too much extra. As soon as the score is untied after 0:00 in the 4th quarter the game is over. Heck play the regular season this way too I like it better than the fantasy football idea.
