Shane Olivea, the Chargers' starting right tackle on those great teams early in Rivers' career, is dead at age 40. No cause of death yet. Why do so many former Chargers die young? Olivea did develop a pain killer addiction while playing for the Chargers, and asked the team to release him in 2008 or 09. RIP #70.

He became addicted to painkillers, spending an estimated $500,000 on vicotin.
Ballooned up to 400 pounds in retirement.

Its a tough sport. Anyone sensible would get out after their 2nd contract...or earlier.

Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

NFL needs to take better care of their players... this is very sad.

Liver killers those Vicodin. And its usually the acetaminophen that does more damage than the actual narcotic. I had a battle with painkillers. Been beaten and battered in my early days.
