Yes that’s true. But that’s not his cap hit. We are spreading it out. His first year cap hit, for example, is only $8 million per Popper.

To clarify even more, what we’re doing this year is the opposite of what we’ve been doing in the past. It’s an extremely risky move if we don’t win it all this year because the bill comes due next year. Of course, you can keep kicking the can down the road but it’s not a great strategy in the long run. This is where having draft picks becoming quality starters become so important.

That is a much better cap hit this year than I expected. So is the signing bonus counted in the guaranteed money? 25 mill sb + 3 mill salary in 2022 and 12 mill in 2023 equals the 40mill guaranteed. Right? Does that mean we can get out of it after 2023 as we approach JH's big contract?
