I just rewatched the one hour film study podcast Brandon Thorn did with Zion on March 23.

What jumps out is how advanced Zion's football knowledge is, and yet he is a rookie.

Thorn is talking to Johnson with a signed, framed #56 Colts jersey of Quenton Nelson in the background.

I don't know if Zion will ever have the explosive power of Q, or the sustained, consistent, controlled leverage of Zack Martin.

Zion is kind of a combination of the two greats.

I have yet to see a hole in Zion's game, and can easily predict that we have drafted a ProBowl offensive lineman two years in a row.

See the tape vs Robert Cooper of Florida State. Also, seeing Zion working so well with Alec Lindstrom at Boston College, has me convinced that it will go very well with Corey Linsley.

I was happy with Zion pick UNTIL I watched the tape on the third round tackle that blew Zion up. Anybody else see that during the draft? I was thinking Chargers should have drafted the defensive lineman and not Zion.

We drafted a first round guard who got rag dolled by a third round defensive lineman. Way to go TT.

I've seen these reps before.

The 9:50 one is very good, particuarly for a guy who has never played C before. But it is pretty much the textbook way to block to your snap hand vs a power player. He couldn't have done it any better.

The next rep at about 11:00, Travis Jones (same guy in both reps) get the better of Zion by aligning over the OG and even then, Zion has a nice initial step and loses because he is overcompensating to his free hand because he is "waiting" for his snap hand to get in the action. If he was at OG, he probably would have been more under control, and still did a good job of getting across Jones face. He just over did it and left himself open to Jones coming back across Zion's face he was off balance.

Again, a single rep lost. Feiler got his ass kicked repeatedly by Darius f-n Philon both times we played the Raiders last year, I guess we need 2 starting OGs still…

And why did we let Philon go? I thought he was a good draft pick and a decent player. I’m just baffled at times at this team’s personnel moves.

I would have liked to keep him on a good deal but I think he got paid more in FA. He also got arrested shortly after we let him go.

He fit Bradley's scheme. He was arrested months after signing with the Cards as a FA. Maybe we knew something.

Wow....all those college career accolades, accomplishments, production, growth...and he goes and throws it all away by losing a rep in senior bowl practice...
