Nabors isn’t even great at 3rd and 1 jumbo package A gap FB dive. If there’s a hole he gets thru, any back would have gotten thru. If there’s not a hole, he doesnt get that yard on his own. Horvath looks like a power back that could, but thats playing against college kids. We’ll have to see him play against a couple pros before we know if we have anything.

I didn’t realize JJ was unsigned FA and not on the roster. I’d have predicted Eke, Spiller, JJ and Horvath but if he’s not signed … well, Spiller may just replace him and they keep Kelly or Rountree. Or Rountree and Kelly both go to PS, unless the RB they signed UDFA surprises. Lombardi system knowledge is a useful plus to the team if they ever need to dive into the PS bin for an emergency replacement
Nabers scored two TDs in his rookie season in 2020 on passes from fellow rookie Herbert. I thought he would be a keeper. I mean, there are 1st round RBs and WRs who don't score 2 TDs as rookies. That was under Lynn/Steichen though. Staley/Lombardi didn't seem to like Nabers though; they gave Stephen Anderson more plays at FB than they did Nabers. So I really don't expect Nabers to be back. I think they are really hoping Horvath shows he can play in the NFL because he partially fills the hole left by the departure of Anderson and brings a dimension at FB that neither Nabers or Anderson possess - the ability to run the ball like a true RB. Nabers was a TE in college. The Chargers converted him to FB; he was never a ball carrier.

If it comes down to Justin Jackson, Joshua Kelley, or Larry Rountree - who's your choice? No brainer, it's JJ.

I think JJ is still unsigned for a reason...

Don't think any of these guys are worth keeping. It seems rather drastic to have a clean-sweep, but what have any of them done to justify a roster spot?

This is a sad question to answer
            literally depressing.

True. But if he's way down the depth chart and doesn't have to be relied on to be Ek's primary back up (Spiller takes over that role hopefully), he's going to be better than anyone else. I'll shake my head if Kelley or Rountree are on the final roster but JJ is not. Kelley and/or Rountree can go on the practice squad and if something happens and they need more RB depth, they can be brought up.

I don't get where all the hopes for Hporvath are coming from. He had a very mediocre college record and wasn't draftted until late in the 7th.

Ekeler was undrafted so Horvath can still be productive if used properly.

True, but Ek also put up big numbers in college.

                        RBs- EK- Spiller- Brown
                        HB/RB/FB- Horvath

                        PS- Rountree- Marks Jr

I think Brown beats out Rountree because of his receiving skills. Horvath beats Nabers out because he can run and catch. He will learn to block just like Nabers learned.

could it be JJ isnt signed cuz he'd cost more than roundtree and kelley? athletically and production-wise I think JJ is superior to both of the latter.
