      AJ was an A-hole.
Gates was a great guy as well as a HOF talent.
AJ was an A-hole. But in that scenario, it was the right move.

Love James' talent. But his injury history is concerning when it comes to signing him to a mega contract.

I wonder if he’ll accept a higher annual pay but lower guarantees compared to Minkah.

I think it'll be the opposite. He wants all the guaranteed money because he knows he has an injury history. And the brass is probably reluctant to give him a lot of guaranteed money because he has an injury history. Hope cool heads prevail. Hopefully it won't, but it certainly could get ugly.

I feel good about it getting done because Derwin is at camp, even as a hold in.

He’s better off sidelined so he doesn’t get hurt.

I did read it. Did you? From the article below:
If Gates had met the deadline, he'd be OK, Alic said.
Gates’ agent effed up and told him that he could miss the deadline. When that didn’t happen, he got immediately fired and replaced with one that got the deal done. He cost Gates a game with us. Notice how smoothly the third contract in 2010 went?

That isn't in the article. Gates said elsewhere he couldn't get a flight on Saturday.

Here's the part you keep avoiding because it contradicts what you said earlier: Asked if he regretted sending the letter, Smith said: "Oh no.
Absolutely not. Oh, no, no, no, no. We knew if sent the letter, 100
                        percent we're out the player."

It was AJ that caused Gates to miss game 1 by setting in process the NFL roster exempt list designation that couldn't be reversed. There wasn't a rule that Gates had to be in camp by a certain date that AJ couldn't reverse. He made Gates subject to the roster exempt rule by sending the letter.

And yes a HOF TE needs an experienced agent and even tho AJ was an a-hole Gates, Rivers and LT were paid at the top of the market without much haggling. Those deals all went smoothly. Difference between an a-hole and idiot.

I'm fine with young players getting more practice reps.

Need Derwin in games, especially with Waller and Kelce the first two weeks.
