Lost in the buzz of training camp opening up around the league was the awesome news that legendary Chargers coach Don Coryell has been named a finalist for the 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the Coach/Contributor category. Coryell was one of 12 individuals selected from the pool of 29 semifinalists that also included former Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer.

The next step in the voting process will take place on August 23rd where one coach and one contributor will be selected to move on to the full Selection Committee. The selection between those two finalists will take place early next year.

The rest of the 12 finalists for the Coach/Contributor category includes Roone Arledge (broadcaster), Mike Holmgren (coach), Frank “Bucko” Kilroy (executive), Robert Kraft (Patriots owner), Art Modell (owner), Buddy Parker (coach), Dan Reeves (coach), Art Rooney Jr. (Steelers owner), Mike Shanahan (coach), Clark Shaughnessy (coach), John Wooten (executive).
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

it's a shame he isnt in it already. Dan Fouts made it. Is Charlie Joiner in it?

        Yes.

I think Coryell is probably a better 'contributor' candidate than a 'coach'. Not winning a championship does hold him back with the HOF committee. Gut feel.. he won't get in.

If he were a Giant, Steeler, Raider, or a Cowboy in would be in right now.

Then, the competition is with Art Rooney and Robert Kraft.

Just say no to cheats and John’s. Especially if they’re the same person.

Which is why it's a joke he isn't in, or if he does that it's taking so long.

If lack of a SB is what prevents Rivers from making the HOF, and Eli and Ben make it because of that, or Rivers does make it but those other two make it before him, I'm going to be disgusted. There's so much hypocrisy when it comes to the QB position.

ugh! To think the rapeburger would make it in before Rivers is a travesty. Both those guys were GIFTED into teams with great Ds and a running game. rapeburger may have had the worst QB rating in a SB of any QB ever...IIRC. And I think he won the 1st one cuz the nfl wanted a nice farewell to Jerome Bettis. there were some questionable calls in that game IIRC.

And Eli was not ever an elite qb.

Some questionable calls? Understatement of the year.
