"...Lombardi called a fine game. The issue was not playcalling. It was execution. He set certain things up before the half. Once Everett came out, they didn't have the matchups to exploit. They were mismatched from that point on. Nothing they could do."
Tyler Lawrence on Twitter (not a ball watcher)

How about sending Carter on some long routes to stretch the D? No, that doesn't fit Lombo's philosophy...in the meantime, we lost a winnable game...

Ok. I am going to respond to your low effort, agenda-driven, populist post.

As stated by Lawrence, the effectiveness of sending Carter relatively deep, as on his TD earlier, was lost in the second half, after Everett unfortunately hurt his groin.

There was a consequent trickle down in matchups.

With no Parham, Keenan or MW, Everett has been the tip of the spear for our offense much of this season.

Unfortunately too many Charger fans would rather howl at the moon than make an effort to discern what is happening.

Okay then, how about sending Carter deep BEFORE Everett got hurt?

They can't run the football, that is why this team couldn't hang on last night.
They can't run the football because that ain't Lombo's thing......never has been.

Instead, they'll spend the majority of their time and effort perfecting the timing and spacing of 3 - 5 yard pass patterns.

We had a puncher’s chance with Everett in the game. All you had to see was McKitty dropping that beautiful seam route to know it. Carter almost made up for it but with 1st and goal on the 2 we tried to get fancy and had to settle for 3

You didn't see the at least 3 throws deep to him? One was a TD. Another just short of a TD and we only ended up with a FG.

That is where Lombos play calling deficiencies really stood out. No reason we should not have scored a TD there.

Do you think DeMeco Ryans will be a Head Coach next year ?

I have no idea, like I tell my wife, I cannot read minds and am not prescient.

I do understand that Lombo has very little flow to his play calling. It is like he has all his plays in a hopper and they just randomly get called. His trick plays are often called at the worst time, there is no surprise element to his play calling, hell, I can predict what he is going to do most of the time. If I can do it you know the D coordinators that watch film are doing it at a much higher rate.

Much like the Seattle loss in the SB we should have just run the ball there, nothing fancy just pounded it, maybe run a PA off of the heavy package but not the crap we did there.
