The Joe Lombardi Support Thread

Was 2nd in passing yardage (behind the GOAT) with 5014 yds
Was 3rd in TD passes with 38
Completed 66 percent of his passes
Had a 97.7 passer rating
The Chargers were 5th in scoring at 27.9 pts per game.

It is well-documented that it was poor, porous defense that kept the Chargers out of the playoffs. The offense was stellar under Joe Lombardi. There's no way you can legitimately question that.

This season, after two games, Herbert:

Is currently 4th in passing yds with 613 (more than Mahomes)
Has 6 TD passes, tied for 4th behind QBs who have 7
Has completed 72 percent of his passes
Has a 112.5 passer rating
The Chargers are 11th in scoring at 24 pts per game
The Chargers are 1-1, their loss on a short week Thurs game on the road against one of the best teams in the league

The Chargers' offense is in good hands with Lombardi as OC. I'm glad we have him.

I'm also okay with Joe. He's not perfect but I suppose the only one I'd say called the perfect game would be me because no two people view it exactly the same. Do I sometimes wish Joe would call a different play, sure, but I also think he called a great play at times.

This is a tough crowd here in TPB. One thing I've noticed is it only takes about two guys to start complaining about a coach or player to get a bunch of people to join in. It get's like a feeding frenzy.

Joe is a good OC, but he needs to be great one for us to beat elite teams consistently. We cant have a guy be our OC forever else he isn't really that good. Never heard pete carmichael sniffing a job and his been in tandem with payton.

I agree with Roos assessment. I am not totally on board with all of Joes play calls, but what do I know? There are time I wish he had done something different, but that is usually after what he did call didn't work that time. It is easy to second guess someone, much harder to do it in real time.

most of his criticism is “ we don’t go deep enough ah!”

other criticism is more of offensive execution

top 5 by all metrics last year I agree offense was not the problem last season and won’t be this season either
