  • Chargers Power Rankings Going Into Week 3

    FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY!

The flavors of the week are the Dolphins and Eagles, it seems. Dolphins / Bills game should tell a lot. Eagles should cruise in the NFCE. As for the Chargers, they did drop back in most rankings / ratings, but not as badly as the Raiders.

I am usually a very pessimistic fan, but the Chargers are the most talented team I think I have ever seen. They have only one below average starter at 22 positions (right tackle) and it's not a stretch to say they could have 13 pro bowlers on the roster: WR, WR, LT, C, RG, RB, QB, DE, DE, NT, CB, CB, S

There are really only 3, possibly 4, potentially really good teams in the NFL I've seen: Buffalo, Chargers, KC, & possibly Cleveland.

KC I think is severely flawed without Tyreek Hill & will struggle offensively as the season progresses & teams adjust to what they're doing, but their young defense should get better and possibly make up for that.

Buffalo is a 1 man offensive machine with Josh Allen & Ken Dorsey appears to be an upgrade over Daboll at OC. Their fatal flaw no one talks about is they can't play man defense. With the exception of game 1 this season every time they face elite passers they get shredded for over 350+ passing yards.

Cleveland has all the talent in the world all over the roster, all pro talent at every level of the defense & best Oline & RB in the NFL, but right now they don't have a QB & have an even bigger problem with their DC Joe Woods. However, there's a slim chance Woods gets things on the defense straightened out & Brissett does enough to keep them in contention until D. Watson makes it back.

That leaves the Chargers, who face 2 potential problems: Injuries & (in my opinion) Joe Lombardi's offense. With their luck half those pro bowlers will be on IR by week 8. Herbert is already banged up. We'll see what happens. Whining about Lombardi's offense is a very minor quibble & in the big scheme of things across the NFL most teams have far more severe problems on one side of the ball or the other with schemes & play calling. But when you're talking about being an elite team and getting to the superbowl it's a possibly relevant quibble.
