Reeks of desperation more than a legitimate plan otherwise they would have hired him from the start.

Don't necessairly disagree about the desperation, but to be fair a ton of unknown factors can influence the timing. I do think they wanted to pull off a stunt to try to one up Faulconer/Roberts, thats pretty transparent.

So basically he lends his name to the project, hires someone to lead the LLC (what is Carmen Policy supposed to be doing again?), and gets to buy into one of the teams (even though he is reportedly worth "only" $100M). Yup, Hail Mary.

I'm not sure how much of a Hail Mary it is or isn't. Remember, he is the guy who knows the owners personally and negotiated the deal that pays them $2 billion a year. He brings credibility to the Carson project. Whether that matters in the end is something that we will see.

Exactly. The timing of it is what makes it seem so desperate.

IMO, they're so afraid of what Faulconer can do and that's why they're trying so hard to smear him and upstage anything he does.
