Interesting.
We were always taught to get your head in front of the ball carrier, otherwise you create a situation where you're arm tackling.
A lot of the tackles they were practicing in shorts, the tacklers head was behind the ball carrier, in essence, were arm tackles. Yet, most of the Rugby tackles they showed were done with the tacklers head where it should be- in front.
I wonder with all the new rules and emphasis on preserving the brain, the old techniques are a thing of the past? That said, the Hawks seem to bring the leather on a weekly basis so you can't really fault them.

I was taught that way too, like 50 years ago. I've always wondered how painful it would have been to go in with proper head-in-front tackling technique and hit Earl Campbell in the thighs or even Marion Butts for that matter.

Painful? Definitely.
But as you'd fall to the ground writhing (sp?) in agony, there would be a high probability that either guy would get his legs caught in your limp body, thus dropping him to the turf.
Good tackle

You wouldn't be able to get your arms around those thighs!

This makes more sense. Less chance of head getting bent over if it is on the near side hip instead of the outside hip. Well done.
Prediction: Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably. Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) . Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.
Yeah so now all I'm doing tonight is watching how great Seattle's tackling technique is compared to Eric Weddle Jason Verrett, and other Charger defenders.
