For guys like me out in "fly over country", growing up a SD Chargers fan pre-internet, phone/computer & 24 hour sports/NFL news cycle was like being an archaeologist. Lightnin' and I would watch whatever shit game we were forced to watch locally so we could see the "crawl" with the Chargers score. Sometimes, we wouldn't know the score/outcome of the game until the Monday newspaper came out. Sometimes not even then. MNF halftime "highlights" and "Inside The NFL" recaps were the only way we knew anything about our team, especially in the lean years when we weren't on national TV and never in the playoffs. I can only imagine what it was like when my dad was a kid and there were three channels.

Having something like this community which I joined in 2001-2 is like winning the lottery for a Charger fan like I've been my whole life. Hope y'all decide to keep it going.

When I moved out of San Diego, I used to have to fight like Hell to get the bartender to flip on the Spanoses. I would bribe, bitch, nag, tell jokes, or befriend the loudest fucker and, once, the hottest female in the place to get the right channel turned on.

In a Mexican casino, I got the manager to flip the big TV with sound to the Spanoses. The soccer fans in the place went straight hooligan. There was a legitimate brawl happening between the customers and the bouncers. The bouncers won, but the soccer fans ended up smashing all the windows out the cars in the parking lot. Fortunately, I didn't have a car in Mexico.

But, yea, I guess there was a time when sports bars didn't have the option of turning on any game that was playing. So I was lucky to have moved out of San Diego late enough that there was always a possibility to watch the Spanoses piss me off.
