    Derrick Ansley named new DC

Ansley is thought of highly in the facility. Looks like this could be a net positive with a new OC & new DC (even though we know Staley still runs the D). Hopefully they work out as well as Ficken did as ST coach!!
NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Monday that the Chargers plan to promote Derrick Ansley to defensive coordinator and Tommy Donatell to secondary coach/pass game coordinator, per sources informed of the situation.

    Congratulations Derrick,

hope they give you a raise.

Chargers DC Renaldo Hill joins Dolphins as pass-game coordinator, L.A. to promote Derrick Ansley, per reports
Ansley started his coaching career in 2005, where he was the defensive backs coach at Huntingdon.

In 2010, he made the jump to Alabama as an on-field defensive graduate assistant. He spent one year as the defensive backs coach at Tennessee before leaving for the same position at Kentucky. His secondary improved every year he was there, going from 64th in pass defense in 2013, 44th in 2014, and 32nd in 2015. They also went from 85th in passing touchdowns allowed to 28th in 2015. He was hired by Alabama to serve the same role in 2016. While he was there, he coached Chuck Bednarik Award and Thorpe Award winner Minkah Fitzpatrick and All-American Marlon Humphrey.

In 2018, he was hired by the Oakland Raiders to be their defensive backs coach, becoming the highest-paid defensive backs coach in the NFL. His unit improved from five interceptions in 2017 to 14 in 2018.

The following year, he was hired as the defensive coordinator at Tennessee. His defense improved from 77th in total defense to 23rd. He was not retained after the 2020 season due to the pay for play scandal.

In 2021 he became the defensive backs coach for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Surprised Staley did not hire Ed Donnatell for the job.

Ainsley is a good coach, maybe the best defensive assistant on the staff.

From Wiki regarding his time at Tennessee, "He was not retained after the 2020 season due to the pay for play scandal." Can't find anything regarding his involvement, he may have been involved or he may have just been caught up in the staff being removed. As DC though, hard to imagine he did not know something? Oh well, I am sure Staley and the Spani did their homework before hiring him in 2021.

I like the fact that he has a ton of SEC experience.

"They include infractions allegedly committed by Jeremy and Casey Pruitt; assistant coaches Derrick Ansley, Shelton Felton and Brian Niedermeyer; and recruiting staff members Drew Hughes, Bethany Gunn and Chantryce Boone. "

The NCAA says fired Tennessee football coach Jeremy Pruitt, his wife and his staff gave players cash and gifts throughout his tenure with the Vols.

After how the Vikings severely underperformed defensively, probably no to Ed.

                  Looked on Google:
                  I counted 18 yrs as DB Coach...vs 8 for R Hill.
I count 2 yrs fo DC experience (play calling) vs ZERO for R Hill (play calling.)

                  UPGRADE!

Firmer DB coach now our LB coach and now a former DB coach is now our DC.
                    maybe a pattern?

He coached Minkah in college, maybe he can help Derwin.

We need to have a slew of DBs who can process quickly and anticipate.

Good luck coach Ansley, in your new gig.

At least Ansley knows our players and the D Staley wants to run. Agree about DBs.
DJ, Davis, Sante, Gillman are OK+.
JCJ, Taylor, Leonard, Woods ? Love to get a quality guy from draft.
