I was into rowdier rock and thought Eagles were a little too country rock and mellow along with Linda Rondstat, America and others in the "California scene" in the early 70s. Then Joe Walsh joined the band and I was already a huge fan of his so I paid more attention. Anyone who isn't moved by the intricate guitar work on Hotel California is a heathen. I became a bigger fan of the group from then on and appreciated solo work of Henly, Frey, Felder (Heavy Metal) and Walsh during the breakup years.
reports say this was a medical emergency where he was suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis + Ulcerative Colitis, and finally Pneumonia finished him off. Yep 67 is way too young to die (Bowie was 69 and liver cancer got him) but there's 1 hell of a rock band somewhere out there!
Not to get too political, but this early mortality is what I think about when I hear "experts" telling people to wait as long as possible to collect your Social Security. Why wait if you have any family history of poor longevity and anything but exceptional medical history of your own? I'm just shy of 58 right now and plan to collect mine the minute I'm 62 to make sure I get back as much as possible of what was extorted from me all my working life.
