Williams also garnered a franchise-record and league-leading 17 rushing touchdowns in 2022. Along with his nose for the end zone, he produced the first 1,000-yard season of his career. Williams earned a base salary of $3.75 million from the Lions last year. He inked a three-year, $12 million deal with $8 million guaranteed to join New Orleans, which is still very much in the same area code as his last season's earnings in Detroit.
Ekler please..by a long shot...Williams is a short yardage specialist who was in the right situation to score alot of touchdowns. He played behind Aaron Jones in GB..and was used more than usual in Detroit because Swift can't stay healthy and Lions used him as a passing back. In the open field Williams can catch a little but he is a plodder...not an explosive player at all

No doubt Ekeler is better than Williams

But a guy like Miles Sanders - what I saw - -pretty good comparison and Sanders AAV is 6.25 and that is what Ekeler will be paid this year

I am not trying negate the ability of Ekeler. Two things 1) again, not his fault, but he can't lead the team in receptions with 100 or in some ways, TDs with 18 2) there might be better ways to spend the money if he is not going to be a happy camper

I cant see him being unhappy with the team. His agent told him he could cash in and that isnt hapenning. That there might make him unhappy but its not the teams fault and he is making the going rate. Id imagine under those circumstances he is happy to stay here another season then try his luck next year.

If we can get at least a 3rd rounder than great but if not, im good keeping him. Not going to give him away.

I think after some time, Ekler and the Chargers will figure ot out and he will be back. The reality of the RB market is likley sobering the Ekler campa a fair bit. If not, Ekler should watch this PFT with Peter King

Mike Florio and Peter King dissect the Cowboys’ move to release Ezekiel Elliott, question how much gas is left in the tank and why the RB will be hard-presse...

Eric Weddle and Melvin Gordon would like a word about how one responds after not getting a new contract. The Chargers do have time to see how he responds with OTA, minicamps. I will say this - if he holds out - I just cut him or trade him

Ekeler isnt those guys so you cant compare them. Weddle was upset with other things as well like the halftime incident. Ek would be dumb to hold out. The market is there in his face to see. Holding out isnt going to force Telesco to pay him more and he will make less if he does.

You cant cut Ekler or trade him for peanuts. I dont think he will act like Gordon. I agree with Boltjolt, anything less than a 3rd and you keep him and expect him to play the last year of his contract. These things dont distract the other players as much as we think. They all know it is a business and giys are trying to make hay during their short careers. The bigger issue is who will be playing RB, but they need to draft a good RB somewhere ina deep RB draft anyways.

No need to insult as I was assuming he was under the last year of his deal and COULD BE CUT with little recourse.

I was joking. $1.5M is what it would cost to cut him. That's' the portion of his guaranteed money that has yet to be paid, so called dead cap.

Are there any credible reports of teams or a team being interest in him? I haven’t seen a single one

There won't be any until FA is exhausted and the draft is over. No team is going for a 1 year rental and giving up draft picks.
And the current RB market is not supporting anything over $6M/yr which is what Ek already makes. So not happening anytime soon.
Only a desperate team would make that move, Bills maybe but not sure they have the cap room and the draft is around the
corner. My opinion: don't expect any movement of Ek until after the draft and possibly just before the season starts.

Lets say the Chargers get Bijan in the draft. They could decide to cut him, saving about $5M in cap space. In any case Ek
has no leverage at all until such time that he gets an offer. He's actually on razor's edge right now.

They are similar in that they one dimensional backs that excel at what they do. Ek has the edge in value because the passing game is valued over the running game in todays NFL so the pass catching back is a bit more valuable than the short yardage back.
