I didn't even know PPE was a thing... until now.
Even with Tuli's PPE applied... the Chargers are still $40m under the cap.
Maybe this is why that much money was saved...?
    Protect the QB
    Run the ball
    Play great defense

I've always thought PPE was something for lower round picks and not 2nd rounders, but that pretty much illustrates how dominant Tuli has been that he qualified for that even as a second round pick...

PPE is for 2nd through 7th rounders
Some players get hosed because the dollars are not guaranteed so teams may not want to pay the cap hit

Daiyan also got PPE just not to the extent of Tuli
One note, next year - the following players will be PPE Eligible as 4th year players

Ladd - I think he gets it
          Still and Hart - maybe
Colson - not a chance as on IR too much
          Eboigbe - possibly

So yes, Tuli was bumped close to $3m and now make $5m salary -- but his extension will increase that

I used to think 106-110/4/60g/35sb would get it done
Now I think he will be 120/4/65g/40sb

I think PPE might end up being a non factor in Tuli's case, he's going to get paid a lot more than this, although his cap number in 2026 might ironically be close to his new PPE number...I just don't see any way that Tuli plays for even the new 5m salary in 2026...I'm all for guys betting on themselves but this is not a good example of that type of situation, the Chargers need to get ahead of this sooner than later...I would have already done the extension, I don't understand why so many teams play these stupid ass games, I think they feel that as the season nears that their leverage increases but with up and coming superstars like Tuli or like Slater last year you end up paying more the longer you prolong these extensions...

I’ve thought 120 is the absolute floor and would be a steal for the team. I’m expecting closer to 140/4/whatever they wanna work out for guarantee idunno. Splitting the difference at 130 would be fair to both but the Edge market is on fire and Tuli’s team knows it or they already would have signed for the team’s number.

Oweh got 100 with half the sacks, and he can’t hold an edge.

Tuli is obviously worth a lot more than $5M. Ask this: If Tuli was a Bronco or Bengal last year and a FA - would you have been eager to sign him to LA with a 140/4 deal? The projected 2027 edge franchise tag is $28M, which could be $7-10M+ less than market rate for a Top 10 edge player. They have 2 years of control with that tag. Joe can’t help himself but start out playing hard ball … we’ll see

140/4 sounds very fair and a good team move to me. I don’t think 120 gets it done.

It's not just Joe, this is pretty standard across the league, some teams decide to lock up guys early but at least 80-90% of the NFL likes to do these drawn out negotiations, it's like physiological warfare, it's almost like a way of reminding the player of their place in the business...

I don't know, but maybe the perception is that teams who choose to sign guys quickly end up paying more or that they make it harder for other teams because they cave in too early? There just seems to be like a standard playbook that most NFL teams stick to, nobody wants to appear soft or easy on players...

The Chargers have the cap space and are in no danger of maxing out their cap space for at least the next 2-3 years as more star players begin to become extension eligible, guys like Alt that are not going anywhere...

I think Tuli is going to do the "hold-in" thing which I think is bad for the lockeroom, it wasn't good last year when it was Slater and now Tuli might already be the new leader of our defense, this is not just another Edge guy, he's a guy that has emerged as an Alpha and that he's done this with both Derwin and Mack on that defense is really impressive to say the least...

It's time to show him the money...

There are plenty of ways to make the number look actually bigger than it is because in the NFL so much of the money is not guaranteed -- so make it look pretty, give him the 80m guaranteed or whatever and get this kid practicing.

23 years old - he is ready to get even better.

I'm bracing myself for the comp pick king who sets a firm line here ... no more than $80 million / 4 years.

I would settle for 3 years at $25 mil per year if he comes into the season somewhat happy about it. Say $50 mill guaranteed for three years and put this behind us for a couple of years more.
