I am not one saying that his team is the side which is asking too much but merely highlighting that could be the case in addition to the other scenarios, i.e, the FO offering too little.

let’s just cut through the chase and stake our own markets so to speak. Here is my position:

If the FO is offering sub Oweh contract and up to even matching Oweh’s 25 Mils annually, I will be siding with Tuli’s team. However if the FO is coming in at slightly sub 30 M but the Tuli team is asking for Maxx or Nick kinda contract, I’ll be siding with our FO.

Personally I just feel and speculate that the latter scenario is the most likely scenario but I have no evidence other than knowing that the FT value for next year will be ~ 30M. I think that if they structure it so that Tuli gets north of 30 to place him in the top 10 Edge earners, just below Nick’s, this would be an ideal outcome. Mayne sprinkle some incentives in there for Tuli to hit some more targets while he has Mack on the other side:

Tuli is 23 and a proven stud Edge. Akeem is 25 and unproven.

As far as we know, that’s the core future of the Edge room 2027 and beyond.

Tuli is holding a Royal Straight Flush. The Chargers can’t bluff that and should stop pretending they can.

We have no clue as to what is being asked and what is being offered so naturally the onus and the blame is being put at the feet of Joe Hortiz. The only facts which we know for certain are these: the price of Franchise Tag for top Edge and that they really want to keep Tuli. Whatever the minor hang up was that caused the brief hold-in was resolved quickly and Tulu will be playing this season.

Obviously it is to everyone's benefit for this contact to be worked out sooner than later and I believe that if there was a huge chasm between ask and offer if Hortiz was being unconscionably cheap, Tuli would have been a hold out already.
Maxx’s AAV is $35M - i think thats around the right price as he is ascending, and he is a 3-down full service Edge. What I don’t know is if his agent is looking for $40M+ like more recent Edge players got (HOU guy Anderson bagged $50M per), for how many years, and how much guaranteed.

The dominant assumption in TPB is it’s Joe’s fault a deal isn’t done yet. Beats the hell out of me, nobody knows either side of the negotiation so that is purely a predisposed bias imho. Biases are normal human - not trying to disparage, we all have biases. We discriminate in almost every decision we make every day. Discrimination, done properly, is good, intelligent - it keeps us off the Darwin Awards list. Sometimes discrimination is unfounded and therefore wrong or even bad (racism, for example, is evil).

My view of the fair deal is between 30 and 35 too. Perhaps closer to 30, idunno. 35 is my top end I could live with if I was Joe but not a full $140M guarantee, I’d want an out after 2 years. That also could be a sticking point - the %guarantee.
