    Welcome Jeff Cumberland

Chargers' Jeff Cumberland: Signs with Chargers
    By RotoWire Staff 10m ago

The Chargers and Cumberland agreed to a one-year contract Monday, Adam Caplan of ESPN reports.
Cumberland joins a tight-end group composed entirely of undrafted free agents, though the leader of the corps is among the top receiving TE in NFL history (Antonio Gates). As the second-most experienced body, Cumberland is coming off a campaign in which he recorded five catches (on 13 targets) for 77 yards with the Jets. It's difficult to project a significant role for the soon-to-be 29-year-old in 2016.
    Go Rivers!

This guy flashes everything you want in a TE, with all the annoyance of him actually turning into a consistent TE.

He might make it just because he has learned to block since coming into the NFL, but the guy is just too inconsistent of a receiver to ever be a regular. Given the shortage of players at TE, not a bad signing, but nothing to get excited about.

He's 6'4 260 and supposedly runs a 4.45 40. Just never put it together with the jets. Plus you throw in geno smith and mark sanchez in the equation and was in chan gailey's offense last year and it's not tight end friendly. Now he has rivers. I think it's worth a gamble and could be a steal if he puts it together.

He didnt cost a pick so see what he has. Find a diamond that a qb challenged jets might have not been capable of using. We shall see.

shoulda just re-singed Phillips or Johnson for a reasonable deal. And stop trying to make Johnson play both FB and TE- get a real FB again and let him focus on TE only.

Telesco's move reflects his greatness. Do not doubt him.

Sounds like we traded Green for Cumberland.

Cumberland was a hot fantasy pick for TE a couple years ago when the Jets crushed Buffalo in the opener, and then even when the rest of the offense collapsed, Sanchez still got the ball to Cumberland for a couple of weeks. Then teams stopped covering him with just a LB (not much more than that, `though) and then Cumberland disappeared. He struggled after that because Marty Mohringwig and Chan Gaily are not OC who like to throw to their TE much.

The important part of this is that he can block reasonably well. Not great, there is a real shortage of TE who can block, so even guys like Phillips and Johnson (who I think we should bring back) are still worth something. But Cumberland is probably not going to come on at his age. He is a 6-year vet, so it is not like he is going to suddenly figure it out at this point. But he can fit the traditional TE role, and he is just good enough that teams have to pay him some attention (not much they just can't completely ignore him). In the end, that is about all you can ask of backup TE. If by some miracle he does blossom, or we get any production out of him, then we are way ahead.

The guy is a way better athlete then 90% of the TE in the league, so at least he has something going for him. He kind of reminds be as a better blocking version of Dante Rosario, that 3rd TE we had a couple of years ago (the guy Green replaced).

Did we sign him off of craigslist?
He actually could be a useful target if we surround him with enough options to force a LB to cover him.
Has to catch the damn ball Tho.

We did, Telesco met up with his "agent" and ended up getting mugged by a bunch of guys. They took his MacBook laptop too.

It was probably Cam Newton's agent from College.
