We needed Mack and his locker room presence and his effort to build comraderie because of Staley. He may actually (not on purpose, he is a great guy) get in the way of Harbaugh building a team the way he wants. As others have said, Harbaugh is in charge and he is going to burn the snakes and eat the grass because no one eats more snakes than us or something like that. And Mack is older than Bosa. I am sure Harbaugh remembers Joey from OSU days and they will do some great stuff together and I do think Harbaugh is going to address the injuries we always seem to have. Williams is gone and we won't miss him because he has missed so much time already. He will go to the Raiders or Browns, you watch. Allen brings a lot of traits Harbaugh preaches and he is still very good.

When Marty was hired there were a few players I remember who groused about his tactics. And Seau (God rest his soul) stood up and said, "This man has won everywhere he has been and I am tired of losing. I am going to do things his way!" and the team stepped in line. James might be the guy to do it now when some players whine about physical practices and tough love they are about to enjoy.

my 2c: Mack was the single most positive influence on the team last year, probably the one guy that held them together, he personally paid for multi-thousand dollar dinners to enable players to build team bonds that Staley (and his now revealed special birthday for special guys) didnt do. I have 100% confidence that with a HC that knows how to build cohesive teams, Mack would continue to be a huge ASSET for building that team and not a problem or liability at all. The dude is both the senior statesman of the roster and the top performer and he plays tough, the Harbaugh way - we need dudes like that.

The only consideration - does Harbie decide Mack is going to fade next year. I think he's got another hell of a year or two left in him personally, he's a fucking beast dawg freak of nature and looked as strong in Week 17 as in Week 1.

We will see - Maybe Jim feels he will get more from Bosa than Mack. the cap savings math is slightly better but I wouldn't pick my top edge player based on that - its not enough of a difference. I don't see how anyone can conclude keep Joey over Khalil based on performance, but I will trust his vision and plan.

Can you predict how many games Bosa will play vs Mack? I think Bosa career is done on his next injury

I think its over after the end of the season of his next injury (17 weeks of full pay) plus after his dad's laywers negotiate an additional injury settlement. Dude's already got >$100M, he's been showing the effort and commitment of a guy for which this ($$) was the original goal. jmo, I could be wrong.

There is no doubt I am keeping Mack over Bosa but I also don't think you keep Bosa if Mack moves on - if only keeping one of them
every decision for Mack,. Bosa, Williams and Allen - need to be individual decisions
If that means moving on from both WRs - if that is the decision, so be it

Bosa's next contract will be a one year make good contract heavily incentivised. Nobody is giving that guy a long term deal - that ship has sailed for Joeys Bosa

I don't know how to spin that into a positive development. Gotta be honest, he soured on me last season.

Years ago, Harbaugh told his 49ers players he would burn the grass to get rid of the snakes. Around here we say, it's time to cook this pork chops. Not sure if Derwin will be in the meat or the bones, but he can either get on board or go somewhere else.

I wish I could remember the player's name who coined that pork chops line, but it sure was classic.

Screw the cap. Renegotiate and keep them all. Our highly paid stars want to be part of a winner too. And they’re not going to get their current contract elsewhere.

And forget about letting Derwin go. He’s a winner and a leader. That’s a guy you build around.

Rich Eisen provides some more insight on Harbaugh. He wants people to not freak out if there’s still occasional Chargering. That happened at Michigan also ie. the first Michigan St game when a successful punt would have won them the game, which didn’t happen. But long term, there’ll be less of that. So patience is key.

I agree. I want to import that black and blue division mindset. I want to be the tough guys of the AFCW. I want to be that team you don’t want to play because you know you’ll have trouble getting out of bed the next morning.
