The College All Star Classic..who remembers that game?

This is for the young guys...and the old guys...like me. Does anybody remember this pre-season game and what are your memories....If you recall or have no idea..

The Chicago Charities College All-Star Game was a preseason American football game played from 1934 to 1976 between the National Football League (NFL) champions and a team of star college seniors from the previous year. It was also known as the College All-Star Football Classic.^[1]

The game was contested annually—except for 1974, due to that year's NFL strike—and was played in July, August, or September. In the 42 College All-Star Games, the defending pro champions won 31, the All-Stars won nine, and two were ties, giving the collegians a .238 winning percentage.

I did not even know that the college All Stars had actually WON some games......all the times I watched the Pro Team won...but it was fun to watch....

Now what do we have....flag football..jeezus.

My little football book as a kid had a chapter on Ron Vanderkelen and the college All stars defeating the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers.

I heard that it was killed because the Pros were clobbering the college All stars once they no longer had to work off season jobs.

After losing the previous time, Green Bay beat the college All stars 38 - 0.
Vince Lombardi was embarrassed by the loss.

IIRC, those All-star squads were top NFL draft picks of that year.

Different era ... the answer back then was yes.

Lift him up and pile drive him into the sand all you want.
Tape him up somewhere and send him out there again.
