I'm not sure Taylor is going to make this roster...maybe based on his STs play?"The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. Telesco hadn't hit on 4 offensive weapon draft picks period during his entire stay with the Chargers:
1. Keenan Allen (check)
2. Mike Williams (??? - #7 pick)
3. Hunter Henry (??? - didn't resign the guy)
4. Justin Jackson (??? - rarely healthy)
5. Marion Grice (check)
6. What about that Fozzy guy?

Minter went out of his way a couple of times now to single him out for praise and commented about how last year he was battling an injury the entire year that affected his play. I thought he was awful last year so I'll obviously defer to our DC.Originally posted by Fouts2herbert View Post

We got 3 QBs that look good too from the few posts I can see.
Bring on Detroit, time to see some snaps played in anger. Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
Let’s win one for Mack.

I was not aware Minter had said those things, Taylor was awful last year and he's never been the type of tackler that Minter expects from his DBs, but he is or was one of the faster guys on the team at 4.36 in the forty, AND he's been a very good STs player too...Originally posted by richpjr View Post

no Herbert?
- left off Melvin Gordon 2 (or was it 3?) .... didn't hear any complaints
Fozzy Whitaker btw was a rookie free agent, so Telesco gets no love for that one
My point was that by drafting Hampton, Gadsen, Harris, and KLS, in one single draft, Ortiz might have hit on more weapons than Telesco did in 11 years,
using his head up his ass approach in evaluating talent.
It almost appears as if Telesco put do not draft labels on players who had too much speed.

Well, then great! Leonard & Taylor will be in their 4rth years .... prime backups who can step in with little drop off hopefully.Originally posted by Fouts2herbert View Post

I agree. Too much is expected from Gadsen, too early.Originally posted by Steve View Post
Why play a guy who has never played TE like he is a TE? Your assuming because we call him a TE that every NFL opponent will oblige and treat him like one. But if he was never used like TE in college why would you treat him like one?
NFL teams line up WR at the TE alignments from time to time, so they have the language in their scheme to adjust to do it. It's not going to disrupt any NFL D. And every NFL team has nickel and dime packages with multiple S and CB, so they have the personnel groups. We might not see it in PS, but come the regular season, it is something that teams do it from time to time, so every team has an adjustment for it.
If not, why has every NFL team not used a big WR as a TE and had a ton of success? NFL teams have tried it from time to time, and it hardly ever seems to work.
If you don't believe that he was a slot receiver the majority of the time, here are the links that prove it.
And yes Gadsen was mostly used in the slot at Syracuse, but he was also used on the line as a blocker ... he's not a stranger to the position.
I was not a big Gadsen fan because he looked more like a big receiver more than anything else, and just didn't have the heft.
Now, at 250 pounds and moving well, I am reconsidering everything ..... for some reason, Syracuse coaching staff wanted him at 225 (my estimate).
When the Charger coaching staff says that he's a better blocker than they imagined, and that his techniques are solid, I tend to listen.
The guy knows what it takes to be a pro from his dad and is showing up early, and probably leaving late with Herbie.
Probably on the beach guzzling beer with Kermit all day if drafted by the Chiefs, just to fit in .... 225 pounds + a 25 pound beer belly = 250 pounds

Fans expect too much probably. The coaches will work him into games as much as he earns it. Vets Dissley and Conklin are ahead of him at TE currently. Our base offense includes TEs that are solid blockers.Originally posted by powderblueboy View Post

Do not be surprised when Dissley is out for the KO return unit to open the game, and then Gadsden lines up in the H on the first play. Gro is gonna go balls out vs KC, forget the 2024 attack that had zero TE weapons, its a new day!Originally posted by sonorajim View Post

Coaches are wowed by Gadsden's ability to beat legit NFL DBs (and not just backup LBs) and stretch the field, vs Conk and Diss taking 3 yard crosses and hitches underneath the second level LBs and being "tackled" immediately. I have yet to see a single Dissley reception video clip posted since the first OTAs, has anyone seen one? And the only Conk clips I have seen, often captioned with effusive promotional excitement, are 3 yard cross and hitch routes underneath the LB where he is immediately "downed". Meanwhile, Gadsden is killing DBs and creating separation and making athletic catches all over the field.
Do not fear the rookie, is my counter-effusive-hype to the cautionary tamp downs now spreading in TPB about OG. I know what an OG is, I watched Boyz In Da Hood.Justin Herbert 2026 MVP Watch
