Getting it done by March 11. Also shored up their DL. That team can truly go into the draft and take BPA now.

We still have the poor trio of Bozeman, Zion, Pipkins that got Herbert killed. We go into the draft with serious needs all over the roster
    Dude….let Hortiz cook, brah…

Herbert to Hortiz yesterday: “WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?!”

Poor guy is probably lying on the floor staring at the ceiling questioning where he went wrong.

      Herbert's busy updating his life insurance policy . . . . . . . . . . . . .

OK, so calmer heads can prevail here.

Fries is a good player and was a 7th round pick but he has a big injury history. Id have prefered Daniels who had the achilles injury but over 6 years has been more durable, and came in much cheaper.

I wont mock if its good. I didnt mind the Jackson signing at all. He isnt the best tackler but i like him over keeping Fulton. And ill repeat, i just didnt like Bozeman or Harris. Did you? Signing Harris to 1 year is another stop gap, and id still draft another RB high to have him around for 4 years. Likely wont be Hampton now but there are other good ones early.

I dont know what he plans to do. Ive no idea if he even planned to sign some OL, but he should. Maybe he still will and has targets we dont know about or didnt think about. As i said yesterday, nobody here ...most anyways had no idea who Poona Ford was, me included and he was excellent.

Should of offered him at least 2 years for 20 mil which of course isnt as good as what the Rams offered. Cant blame Poona for taking that. Should of offered Tart 2 years as well imo. As for Hortiz, maybe they didnt like this FA class. Its been said not to be great so overspending on day one isnt good. Today, tomorow,..... maybe we see some better values. 93 mil dont go far when singing expensive guys. Ive seen on X many say we should trade for Hendrickson.....which i crazy. He will cost proably more than DK and cost a high pick.....sapping some of that 93 mil.

Someone in here said we are down to 50 mil already from what we did do. Seems kinda low to me but im not a capologist and it isnt updated on OTC or Sportrac.
JUst curious what you are anyone here like about the Donte Jackson signing?

I am inconclusive. I figure it is because he plays best in zone and Minter plays more zone than any other team...but...depsite 5 picks he was something like 196 of 220 CBs in coverage, he is a small CB at 180 lbs who doesnt tackle well.

We will see i guess, cheaper than Fulton

          Fulton to Chiefs. 2y/20mil.

Hortiz might have a strategy here.

Sign a player no Team really wanted to a prove it deal. That players is now fighting for their NFL life and livelihood. Then if they show out, the players is UFA and signs a big deal elsewhere and Hortiz earns the comp picks. The way he is going about it Chargers going to have 10 or more draft picks every year. And that is where Hortiz said he build his team from. Gives him some ammo to trade up or make a mid season acquisition and also gets him more shots to hit gems in the draft.

Some GM play 3 dimensional checkers like Telesco, others play 4 dimensional Chess, and Hortiz is playing 5th dimensional Brain Games.
Who has it better than us?

A guy like Zeitler makes sense in that there likely isn't a long term cap commitment and it buys time to draft and develop a younger player behind him.

If you look at the upcoming 2025 season in a vacuum, then yeah, it's easy to get upset.

I stick to what I said a few weeks ago and that is that the FO realizes 2025 is a bit of a step back year. No real impactful free agents. Focusing on the draft. I think if we had not made the playoffs in 2024, this would have been easier for the fans to digest. But winning 11 games has unrealistically raised expectations. The team just isn't there, yet. This wasn't the free agent class to splurge.

They will hunker down and focus on the draft. If we had only won 6 games last year, then 7 or 8 this year, you'd say ok we're on the right track. Again, I think 2026+ was the target all along. We got lucky last year and now I'm seeing expectations of 13+ wins....like what??? I think 2025 will be more of a regression to the mean, especially having a tougher schedule. 2025 will look like what last year SHOULD have looked like. If Hortiz can work his magic with these 10 picks we should be in good shape moving forward.

Yeah it's easy to be upset, but I would try not to focus JUST on this year. Unfortunately though, it IS another year that Herbert will be running for his life and throwing to nobody (outside of Ladd).

This is really sensible. I wholly agree with your points.

What some of us are questioning is unless this guys got some trade up his sleeve, they are going into the draft telegraphing to the league their needs pretty blatantly. You can’t get around it.
So as of right now, the options at interior G/C are Becton-Zeitler-Hernandez-James.

There is no other starting level G/C in FA that could start over what they have in this scheme.

So logically, they have no other options but to go into a draft that has G’s but only a few and they are only at the top of the draft. And every other team who might need a starting G knows the Chargers needs too…

Even if not, $9 mil isn’t terrible for a decent backup with G/T versatility, especially considering some of the massive overpays yesterday. And BTW I’m glad they aren’t out there overpaying. That is how you wind up with guys like Bryan Bulaga or Orlando Franklin. Very Ravens like strategy.
its not $9 for Pip, its $6.75. Dead money already left the barn, its been gone for a long time, it doesn't count. Given Joe doesn't seem to be spending the money he has, I see no rush to create more cap space by cutting him as yes - he is a better backup than anyone else on our roster and possibly better backup than most rosters. all jmo - IDGAF given Joe isn't doing shit to improve our IOL

This is why I think Trader Joe doesn't splurge for a big contract like what Becton will probably get...some people don't like how Hortiz accumulates comp picks but hey, some of those day 3 guys can turn out, with good scouting, to be pretty solid players...like Still and Hart...
