    At that price yes.

They could move on from Bud Dupree, who looked spent last season. Dupree is under contract for one more season, but the contract is structured so they could cut him and save his $3.7M, with a $1.25M dead cap hit.

Sweat would cost $16.4M this season, on the 2nd year of a 4 year deal he signed with the Cards last season. His 2027-08 cap numbers are $23.5M for each year, but there is an out after this season that would carry a $16.5M cap hit.

Sweat is 29 this season. He had 12 sacks for the Cards last year. I guess I could see him as the successor to Mack as the elder statesmen pass rusher. Adding him this season would make the Chargers pass rush devastating, I expect the Chargers to be playing with a lead in the 2nd half of games. If there is an injury to Tuli, Mack or Mesidor, they wouldn't have to rely on Kennard or Tucker (or Dupree), and give these youngsters time to develop.

Tuli is going to get paid soon, so maybe taking on Sweat's contract is not feasible. The Broncos led the league in sacks last season with 68, the next closest was Atlanta with 57. The Chargers were tied for 10th with 45. I'd like to see the Chargers surpass the Broncos in terrorizing QBs this season.
Sweat would actually cost about $16m with roster bonuses.
    $20m the next two seasons.

If you pick up Sweat this year - it because you are moving on from Mack after this year. The key is still signing Tuli long term

My target on D is always low points allowed. Sacks and pressures can help. Tuli, Mack, Mesidor are studs we want on 3rd and long and I think Kennard is ready to step his game up. Not against Sweat but not for a big contract.

A request of my Powder Blues brethren:

When you see an article that hints strongly that the Bolts will be pulling off a major trade for... somebody...

Do not click on that article. Your own experience no doubt informs you that these articles are absolute fiction the VAST majority of the time. Let's not reward the guys who write bogus stuff for pay. Let them starve for 'hits'.

    That is all. Carry on.

Good targets are high 20's offense, less than 20 D. If we're able to play in that ball park, we'll win a lot of games.
