the total amount guaranteed over the total life of the contract is the big thing being debated by Rd 2 picks and teams. fine print details of exactly when its due doesn't matter vs this central top line number.
As the Los Angeles Chargersopened training camp Wednesday, star left tackle Rashawn Slaterwas on the field and in uniform—despite being in the midst of contract negotiations that could make him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL.
Slater, 26, is entering the final year of his rookie deal after the Chargers picked up his fifth-year option, which will pay him $19.04 million in 2025. According to the LA Times’Thuc Nhi Nguyen, general manager Joe Hortizconfirmed the team is actively working on a long-term extension.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
Let’s win one for Mack.
“Forced servitude”, they could go the CFL. No one says they have to join the NFL. Heck they could play any other sport. Sorry just not crying over rookies having a pay scale. Is it fair, heck yes it is, if they choose to join the nfl.
its a legalized cabal conspiracy, 32 owners collude together, akin to the 5 Families.
Rookies are forced to either work for the team that drafts them or don't work in the NFL at all. saying your choice is to not work at all is not a choice. your references to bullshit lesser leagues is a non sequitur imo.
For those who are trying to say Allen and Ladd can’t play together, I don’t get it. To have two wr who can get space, great routes, great hands… yeah that wouldn’t work???

but X and Y ???? just kidding, i don't get it either.
they are both great and we would shred teams with short & medium passes.
I dont disagree but i still think teams dont want this snowball into round 3. There is more to this than just giving 20% more guarantees. IDK know why Houston and Cleveland were so quick to do this and im sure at the next owners meeting, there will be a discussion. More like wtf are you idiots doing?
They wanted a rookie pay scale! Got one, and now its starting to unravel. They want to know if their picks are going to be good players or not and dont want to give guarantees years 3 & 4 to lower rounds if they arent.
They may not want it to - but it will next year . . . . . .

It won’t happen if owners stay united.
I suspect there will be a lot of scrutiny on who went rogue this year with the 2nd round guarantees and collective preemptive pressure applied to make sure it doesn’t happen in the third round next year.
