Both Staley and these Chargers beat the easy teams on the schedule and lose the big games to the good teams on the schedule.

    What is the huge difference?
We were 5-12 last year under Staley. Telesco left us in cap hell with big roster holes and no depth. Somehow, we are 8-6 and likely to end up 10-7. That is a huge improvement. If you can't see that, you are just focusing on the negative.

Remember him? He's a legend on and off the field

Improvement depends on what you are looking at.

Offense averaged 20.4 ppg last year. This year it’s 21 ppg.

A case could be made the offense is worse if you factor the strength of schedule.

        Defense has improved “hugely”.

It seems Hortiz retooled the defense with a lot of quality FA’s and draft while bringing back the most talented players.

That didn’t happen on offense obviously.

5-12 with Herbert missing the last 5 games but yeah I get it. Hortiz replacing Telesco and fixing the roster is the best part of all this.

I just threw the 9-8 and 10-7 comparisons out there for thought. Harbaugh has been crowned already around here but he is not beyond accountability or objectivity given that Staley is trashed mercilessly. Lets see what happens this week and how he gets his team to respond.

Remember how Kellen Moore was vilified last year?

He’s guided Eagles to a 12-2 record this year.

It’s the old nature versus nurture question. Players or Coaching matter more?

A very familair refrain on here this season has been "coaching matters"

No question Harbaugh is a good coach, but that saying also has to be applied to Greg Roman and the offense.

And given that Harbaugh inisists to Roman being attached to his hip, that reflects on Jim.

It does. And since Harbaugh wins everywhere he goes, people might want to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I've been saying it's players pretty much all year and this is a perfect example. Moore with shitty players looked like a shitty OC. Goes to a team with a talented offense and looks like the best thing. Conversely, the Chargers o-line played like shit last year. They basically have the same players minus Boz and ALT and they still are shit even with a new coaching staff. Blame G-Ro all you want but the players just arn't cutting it especially the IOL.
Time to put my money where my mouth is: Hampton will be better than Jeanty!

Wiki says he was a third-round draft pick that year, and was voted First-team NFL All-Rookie at cornerback. Wiki also says that he was born in Gutamala City, Guatamala, and that he was with the Chargers in 1986 and 1987. Was he injured? No information on why his career ended so suddenly. Wiki does say that he was a high school coach later on.
