I'm confident the Chargers will win this game. The Broncos' defense has played well in their past two games, but I don't think it's elite. Bo Nix throwing for 60 yds, completing 48%. Minter's defense will shut that down. I'm confident the offense will be much better in this game. This game will be the 2nd of back to back division games the Broncs host, they have Raiders in their house this weekend.
At 2-2 going into this game, the Chargers are OK. They've won two games in which they dominated, they've lost two games against undefeated teams, but they were not dominated, they scored first in both games - TDs not FGs - and were the better team for much of both games. The impact of unfortunate injuries can't be ignored.
Jim Harbaugh is taking ownership of the mistakes he made in the Chiefs loss.
The offense is still a work in progress. It's too soon IMO to start calling out Greg Roman. He's going to need a little time to figure out what works best for this group of offense players and their skill sets, from the OL, the QB, the RBs, the WRs and the TEs. Let's not forget that Herbert's top four passing weapons the past two seasons are now gone. He is starting over with a new group of mostly young players.
LMC (McConkey) is going to get better every week. He is going to be the next great Chargers' WR in the KA mode. QJ I'm still not sure about. Palmer IMO is a good #3 WR, but that is probably his ceiling. I'm interested to see if Chark comes of IR for the Broncos and what impact he can have on the passing game.
The in-season trade prospects this year are unusually deep at WR, it may behoove Hortiz to trade for one - Amari Cooper, DHop and Dionte Johnson are my top choices right now. We are in competition with the Chiefs here. The Raiders will probably trade Davante Adams, but I doubt Telesco will do business with the Chargers or Chiefs. I'm reading the Panthers are definitely going to move Johnson, Adam Schefter thinks so. He's in the last year of his contract and he apparently does not want to re-sign in Carolina, so the best bet is for the Panthers is to get some trade compensation. At 28 he's younger than Cooper or DHop. He had 2,100 yds receiving in his 2nd & 3rd seasons, with 15 TD receptions, when he was playing with a good QB (Roethlisberger). Given the situation, he could probably be had for a low draft pick, his cap hit is $10 mil for 2024.
I'm picking the Chargers 24-6 over the Broncos in Denver coming off the bye.
