This is my cluster. Popper’s thoughts match mine (or vice versa). I’d be happy with any of the six. And IMO, one of them will be there at 22.

    Tight end

    Tyler Warren, Penn State
    Colston Loveland, Michigan

The Chargers have two tight ends on the roster for 2025: Will Dissly and McCallan Castles. Dissly set career highs in catches (50) and yards (481) last year in his first season with the Chargers. He was particularly good in yards-after-catch situations. But as the playoff loss in Houston showed, Dissly has some limitations as a pass catcher. The strength of his game is as an inline blocker. The Chargers need a tight end who can be more of a matchup advantage in the passing game, particularly stretching the field down the seams. Adding that type of tight end would also move Dissly into a predominantly blocking role that better fits his skills. I’ll say this now: Warren will probably be gone. But I am including him because he is such an ideal fit for what the Chargers need. It is the draft, after all. Anything can happen. Loveland, meanwhile, played for Harbaugh at Michigan. He would provide a size-speed combination at tight end the Chargers have not deployed in years. Castles was signed to the practice squad in October and signed a futures contract in January.

    Edge rusher

    Shemar Stewart, Texas A&M
    Mykel Williams, Georgia
    James Pearce Jr., Tennessee
    Mike Green, Marshall

This, to me, is the most fascinating position group for the Chargers this offseason because of all the moving parts. Mack is a pending free agent. Bosa has the largest cap hit of any edge rusher in the league in 2025, and he has just 14 sacks over the past three seasons combined as he has battled numerous injuries. How the Chargers approach the Mack and Bosa situations will inevitably inform their approach to edge rusher in free agency and the draft. One thing is clear, however: The Chargers must get younger at edge. They have one young, potentially ascending player in Tuli Tuipulotu. The other players in the room last season — Mack, Bosa and Bud Dupree — will all be over 30 by the time training camp begins in July. The 22nd pick could be a sweet spot for an edge rusher. It would be tough to spend a first-round pick on this position if both Mack and Bosa are back. So stay tuned.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
    Let’s win one for Mack.

now this would be a bit of a revelation, and.... if so, would hope we could better get him come the third round, as would still opt for Grant here.

why do some of you guys like Shemar's potential over is production? I'm not able to get past that yet, i have not heard any explanation why an Edge rusher can be slotted for the first round that had 4.5 sacks in 3 full seasons? what is the reason he produced literally nothing his entire college career?

I'll take any of the other three on your board.

He's a large man for Harbaugh who loves size, he's fast and he's highly athletic. He can already play the run well (and you can't get on the field with regularity if you can't) and he's shown to be very disruptive. The only thing that's missing is sacks. And that's called upside because he has the tools. And tools count even if unrefined.

Stewart's tape shows a defensive end best suited for an aggressive 4-3 system that allows him to attack upfield. His elite run defense and raw power make him an immediate candidate for base defensive packages, where his length and stack-and-shed ability will translate quickly. What separates him from similar body types is his rare movement skills - that 4.75 speed at 290 pounds creates serious mismatch potential against both tackles and guards.

Despite the modest sack numbers, Stewart's film against SEC competition reveals a player who consistently affected quarterbacks even without finishing plays. He's at his best when allowed to reduce inside on passing downs, where his combination of length and explosiveness overwhelms interior linemen. His performance against LSU's NFL-caliber offensive line (4 pressures, 2 QB hits) highlighted this potential. A creative defensive coordinator will move him around the formation to exploit matchups while his pass rush arsenal develops.

The gap between Stewart's current play and his ceiling is significant enough to make him a boom-or-bust prospect in the top 20. His run defense and athletic testing numbers warrant first-round consideration, but his unrefined pass-rush technique and tackling issues are red flags that must be addressed. The team that drafts him needs a proven track record of developing raw defensive linemen and the patience to live through early growing pains.
Compare that to DT Kenneth Grant who can play the run and create havoc, but may never be a pass rusher.

I would love to see the Chargers jump in front of Denver in the 1st and 2nd rnd. They have similar needs.

How about that time we drafted Zion Johnson right ahead of pro bowlers OT Tyler Smith and OC Tyler Linderbaum. Good times in the draft.
