I will take the production of a guy like Jonathan Taylor - when healthy, good player. I think a bit faster than HamptonOriginally posted by dmac_bolt View PostLol - Welcome to LA, Omarion, all you have to do is live up to immediate comparisons to Emmitt Smith, LT, AP, Todd Gurley, and ... what other HOF're did I miss?
Joe Mixon comp body wise makes sense -
Chargers haven't had a good running back for close to 10 years and even that. Gordon had one good year and maybe two average years. Really its been 15 years

I personally see some Ahman Green in Omarion Hampton. Green had over 9,000 rushing yards and over 12,000 total scrimmage yards in his career. The running styles are similar, to me.
Or we can compare Omarion Hampton to Rodney Hampton, the New York Giants' power back from the 1990s who had five consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons. I'm assuming there's no relation, but Rodney was 5-11, 221 pounds during his career while Omarion is currently 6-0, 220. Rodney just looked a lot bigger because of the shoulder pads from that era.

We never really saw Mathews or Gordon running behind a good OL, to be fair to them both. Both also had chicken-shit coaches that pulled them for a couple early fumbles and shook their confidence - lots of RBs have early fumbles because NFL defenders are just that much better at stripping it out. Bad coaches can wreck rookies. LT had fumbles his first year (or 2?), Shotty stuck with him cuz he knew and LT developed excellent ball security.Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post

I also like the Ahman Green comparison above post as well.

I’d take the proven Hampton over the iffy Golden. Golden’s size concerns me. He may never be #1 receiver. And the Bolts love big. Hampton is big. So it’s a match.Originally posted by northerner View Post
I don't know, hoping to fleece someone with a trade down is more of a windfall - it can't be a focal point or strategy. especially with the 22nd pick.
if they wanted a parade (high draft grade), all they had to do was draft Golden, so i figure that they really liked Hampton. Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
Let’s win one for Mack.

I am only posting this moronic take for posterity, so please do not shoot the messenger. I am on record saying that I luv this pick
The Yahoo! moron "experts" have been dead-panning both Jeanty to the Raiders and also Hampton to the Chargers as like the worst picks, based on both "woeful" offensive lines, wasting the talents of these two fine RBs! Giddy up!
"McDonald: Omarion Hampton, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Hampton is a fine player, but there's reason to question the value here for the Chargers, who still have glaring needs, especially on the interior offensive line. The Chargers aren’t good enough to justify using a premium pick on a running back and the move doesn’t make their offense materially better."

I guess the Chargers could have taken Donovan Jackson but what it Hampton was rated higher than Jackson,.Originally posted by Factotum View PostI am only posting this moronic take for posterity, so please do not shoot the messenger. I am on record saying that I luv this pick

My guess, the Raiders had Jeanty higher than Membou or Banks
I get the theory of having a good Oline for your RB - but end of the day, the pick at OL has to match where they are being drafted too

Okay Fuck it let’s do it.
if this was 2001 I repeat if this was 2001 Omarion is a top 5 pick just like Ladanian Tomlinson was. But because the running back isn’t valued. The pick is looked down upon.
Hampton has burst that Ladanian Tomlinson burst. Now Ladanian Had a fabulous career at TCU back then smaller program. So I compare the programs TCU and North Carolina.
Hampton has that burst when he gets the ball. Ladanian had that burst. I think Ladanian hit the whole better. Hampton runs a little high.
but he’s a taller back. But he runs hard. and I think this guy reminds me of when we picked Tomlinson. To have a home run hitter whenever he touches the ball is a luxury.
Adrian Peterson went 8th to the Vikings.
Look where Derrick Henry went?
Gordon was a guy who got touchdowns he wasn’t nearly the player he was at Wisconsin.
This guy runs and he looks for the contact. When you have running backs like that they win playoff games.
We gotta keep these guys fresh.
You gotta look at the productive backs Ezekiel Elliott had Zach Martin.
Quentin Nelson has Jonathen Taylor or I should say Jonathan Taylor has Quentin Nelson. and Ryan Kelley.
Barkley Johnson Mufatta Dickerson Jurrigens Becton
this guy is gonna play most of his career with Joe Alt who’s his same age. Hes got Rashawn Slater. This offensive line is gonna be huge for him.
I think Teams disrespect our offensive line.
When you have 10 back there Herbert he’s gonna get a small box because that man’s arm you have to drop coverage back.
So this guy can run for 1500 regularly as long as Herbert is back there.
You gotta look at the back. This guy is more complete than Genty. Genty is a great back. But this guy explodes through the line of scrimmage. The Chargers couldn’t have Gotten a better player.
things will be way easier for Herbert.

Yea, its kind of a polarizing pick...Rich Eisen, for example, ranks it in his top 5 best day 1 picks.Originally posted by Factotum View PostI am only posting this moronic take for posterity, so please do not shoot the messenger. I am on record saying that I luv this pick
