Jamaree Salyer was the Slater insurance policy all along. It was insane that the staff didn't realize that from the jump. It's like they weren't aware of the 2022 tape. Or couldn't make that judgment based on practice. Instead they wasted draft picks on Deculus and Penning, neither of whom could handle the job.

You can blame Devlin and Roman for that. Those two have a prototype and a preferred "look" for a starting tackle, and Salyer did not fit the mold. If you ask me, if Rashawn Slater hadn't already been an All-Pro starting LT, he wouldn't have even been drafted with these two.

Yes. I also like the idea of drafting G’s that can play OT as well. And did it at a high level. There’s a bunch in this draft. Indiana LT Carter Smith projects to RG in the NFL. RT Jaeden Roberts projects to RG. Duke RT Brian Parker plays RT but has played all the offensive line positions well in his college career. Indiana C Pat Coogan played LG at Norte Dame next to Alt and they were one of the best combo’s in college football. There’s a bunch of options there.

In fairness, some here do get it and do propose signing an OG that played better than Zion. Just not enough for my liking …. I’m pushing for unanimity

Zion is a free agent... we don't have to re-sign him just because he's familiar. He has trouble picking up the twists and stunts... even before whipping-boy Roman showed up. Let's get better there. My dream scenario is McGovern/Edwards combo. Draft a RG in the 2nd/3rd to complete the IOL.

He was not 100 %. Dangerous to protect your franchise qb until he was fully ready. They know more than you and me

Nonsense. He was active as a reserve guard after his first start at LT. They claimed he was injured and put Deculus/Penning out there instead, but he was active in some of those games and even came in to relieve Becton at RG.

They will likely resign him because Harbaugh talks glowingly about him, and the front office, mainly Joe Hortiz, seems to have the same disposition. The only way he does not get resigned is if the OL coach they bring in has a strong voice in the room to affect personnel decisions. Personally, if he can be had under 10 mill a year, I'd work to convert him to a C where he can showcase his physical talent and mental aptitude.

We don't know how the OL was run under Devlin and how strict the blocking assignments were as it pertains to Bozeman orchestrating it all, so the jury is out on some of the guard play given that Bozeman was such a weak link.

He was injured. He was a poor OG when healthy. Roman was fired for making poor decisions. Devlin was fired.
