Wes Chandler and John Jefferson were both selected in the 1st round of the 1978 draft, Chandler 3rd overall (Saints) and Jefferson 14th overall.

Chandler was clearly viewed as the more elite prospect, and his career stats no doubt validate that.

Accounts of Jefferson's decline and disappearance from the NFL have always failed to adequately explain what the hell happened. Pretty sure more was going on than met the eye of Joe Fan.

Meanwhile, look at some of the studs who were first round picks in '78:

Earl Campbell, Art Still, James Lofton, Ross Browner, Clay Matthews, and Ozzie Newsome.

I think Chandler's production fell off after that Raider helped him run full speed into the goal post.
