Why Eli Manning Didn't Want to Go to the Chargers

His defense always delivered when it mattered most. Eli "won" his two Super Bowls with 17 and 19 points. It wasn't a tennis match between him and Brady. He had Strahan, Umenyiora, Tuck, Kiwanuka, and Pierre-Paul punishing Brady and allowing that Patriots' offense to score only 14 and 17 points in those games.

The Giants also benefited from Kyle Williams fumbling two punt returns in the 2011 NFC Championship Game, which led to ten points and the winning field goal in overtime for the G-Men.

Roethlisberger had a defense that delivered too. The defenses he had from 2004 to 2010 were very good.

The Steelers benefitted with Tom Brady and the Patriots being out of the way. When they won the two SBs they did in the 2005 and 2008 seasons. 2008 was the last time teams could get away with having a weak offense. Pittsburgh had an easy road to the SB that year. People always talk about how lucky the Patriots were in the 2007 season when we had players injured in the playoff game against them. When Pittsburgh beat the Chargers and went to and won the Super Bowl that year, so were they. They were lucky we didn't have Ladainian Tomlinson for the game against them in the playoffs. We would have done better against them. The regular season meeting was a close and hard fought game.

After 2010 Ben didn't go to the Super Bowl again. He had defenses that helped carry him. In 2010 the Chargers had the number one ranked defense when it comes to fewest yards allowed. The Steelers were the number one ranked defense in terms of fewest points allowed, that same year. Roethlisberger always had a defense that helped carry him when he went to the 3 SBs that he did. 2011 was when their defense started to fall apart, even though they were good statistically. They were not the same again after the loss to the Tim Tebow Denver Broncos.

I think you are way off in believing that Norv Turner was a better head coach than Marty Schottenheimer. For whatever reason, you have always held onto that belief even though it clearly isn't true.

I don't believe him because at the same time he admits he would not accept a trade to any other team at the top of the draft besides the Giants. He is not a trustworthy source on this subject, he is biased, he needs to say some excuse for his poor behavour. Clearly he was wrong in his assesment because the Chargers won the dvision 5 out of the next 6 seasons after Eli refused to play here.

He wasn't bad, but he had a falloff. After 2012, Eli didn't put up numbers like he did from the late 2000s to the early 2010s. I'm convinced Eli is in on it with those manufacturing things we are not allowed to know about.

And in Pittsburgh, if I remember correctly. Tomlinson got hurt against Denver, that final regular season game in 2008 ... still remember John Madden saying ''that's the old LT'' on a long run ... just before getting hurt.

Quentin Jammer got injured late in the 1rst half of that playoff game, and then the flood gates opened .... it was a tight game up to that point.
