BLOG: ESPN Ranks Corey Liuget Top D-Lineman in AFC West

    (first football post!)

Who is the best defensive lineman in the AFC West?

061613liuget620.jpg1. Corey Liuget, San Diego: This player has a chance to be a superstar.

    2. Lamarr Houston, Oakland: A lot will be expected of this talented player on a line in transition.

    3. Derek Wolfe, Denver: The Broncos are expecting huge things from this second-year player.

    4. Kendall Reyes, San Diego: The same thing goes for Reyes in San Diego. He has great potential. 14. Cam Thomas, San Diego: The Chargers expect a lot from this promising player.

    15. Christo Bilukidi, Oakland: I have a feeling he is going to develop quickly.

    16. Andre Carter, Oakland: Greatest value may be as a leader, which this young team needs.

    17. Jason Hunter, Oakland: Try-hard player could get a lot of playing time.

    18. Jack Crawford, Oakland: Second-year player will have a chance to show his value.

Dontari Poe at 6? If Cam ranks at 14, then I can't see Poe being any higher.

I think people still have those combine numbers dancing in their heads.

I'm not saying Cam is very good even, just that Poe has really not done anything other then run a great 40 time at the combine. I do think the kid has a lot of potential, but he has a long way to go. Same applies to Cam, only he has made some progress. It will be interesting to see how he reacts to having the job. HE has always had all the ability in the world, but he just doesn't put it all together.

This is his year. If he does it this year, with the lack of depth on DL, he can get a big contract and be in position to get a lot of playing time and become a fixture. But if not, the Chargers will be forced to add some quality depth, and can we afford another highly paid DL on top of 2 quality DE and whoever that other quality pick, then sign Cam too? He has to step up and prove he can be a quality starter, otherwise he is probably done with us, even if he is just OK.

Looking at that list, I had no idea that Denver was a weak as they are at DE. DT they are really set, but they really don't have a quality pass rushing DE. Some of that is helped by having Von Miller lining up outside on passing downs, but Ayers at RDE? Wolfe is a fine run down DE and pass rushing DT, but you don't want him lining up outside on passing downs. So unless Beal or Jackson really come on fast for Denver, it is going to be tough for Den on the outside. I also think they need someone to emerge opposite Von Miller, or his production will drop.

Wasn't Williamson the guy who thought the Chiefs were going to win the division last year?

                      Different Williamson.

But when Tyson Jackson is number 8 you know this is a crappy group.

One thing AJ could do was identify DL. They were certainly good over his reign

Kind of surprising to see him get some positive national pub, but probably a pretty accurate list.
