Just for fun : Replace current Chargers with former Chargers

Since it's the offseason I want to play a game, here are the rules

    1) Replace 5 current Chargers with 5 former Chargers (same position and spot in depth chart, so you can't replace QB2 with Dan Fouts, it would have to be for Rivers)

    2) All former players would be from their prime years as Chargers (so you get '04 Brees, not super bowl winner Brees)

    3) Former players have to play in today's NFL (how big/fast was Bambi?)

    4) Can't replace current players with their younger selves (the Antonio Gates rule)

    Mine are:
    1) Seau (for Perryman)
    2) Tomlinson (for Gordon)
    3) Jamal (for Mebane)
    4) Hardwick (for Pulley)
    5) Weddle (for Boston)

I like this list a lot. Just to be different I changed one person on there

    1) Seau (for Perryman)
    2) Tomlinson (for Gordon)
    3) Deilman (for Feeney)
    4) Hardwick (for Pulley)
    5) Weddle (for Boston)

Move Feeney to RG and Lamp at RT

Okung Deilman Hardwick Feeney Lamp would be a pretty solid line

I think Perryman is our WLB now.

Id keep him and use Seau over Pullard. Seau/Perryman or Seau/Pullard?

        1. LT for Gordon
        2. Joiner for Benjamin
        3. Jamal for Mebane
        4. Russ Washington for Barksdale
        5. Harrison for Addai

You would have to trade Bosa for O'Neal, and I agree with Carney (maybe over Weddle)

First of all, I'm liking the respect for Rivers.

          1. LT for Gordon (not a knock on MG, LT just was that dominant)
          2. Hardwick at C for Pulley (great O-line leadership and ability)
          3. Hitman Harrison for Addai (instant intimidation added to D)
          4. Seau for Pullard (Any great Charger team has to have Jr.)
          5. Jamal for Mebane ( in his prime maybe best nose tackle ever, Charger D run stopping problems gone)

1). Louie Kelcher for Mebane (just because so many others already mentioned Jamal)
2). Gary Big Hands Johnson for Liuget (Jamal could work here too)
            3). Stan Brock for Barksdale
4). Rodney Harrison for Phillips (WILL LB) runner up Martin Bayless
            5). Gill Byrd for Boston
            2nd attempt
6). Courtney Hall for Pulley (Hardwick was better for short stretches, but Hall was better overall and played OG too).
7). Rolf Benirshke for any of our K
            8) Mike Scfries for Drew Kaser
9). David Binn for Mike WIndt (actually Windt is fine, I just think Binn is probably the best long snapper of all time).
10). Seau for Perryman (MIKE LB)

Lance Alworth (for T. Williams) - Trust me, Bambi was good enough to even replace Keenan here.
                Don Macek (for Pulley)
Jr. Seau for (Pullard or Perryman)
                Russ Washington (for Barksdale)
Doug Wilkerson (for Feeney) - Ed White a close second

No love for Don Macek? I think Pickel from the Raiders called him the "holdingest center in the league" : )

Macek before my time. I especially liked Hardwick because he would be next to two young guards and his leadership would improve both of them.

Take out Addae, Perryman, and Emmanuel. Insert Harrison, Seau, and Merriman. Instant Championship

Interesting thread. My five players would be (in no particular order):

                    1. Shawne Merriman in, Melvin Ingram out

I do like Ingram and think him and Bosa make a good pair, but if we could put a prime Merriman opposite Bosa we would arguably have the best pass rushing duo in the league. I'm being greedy here but I'd love to see a defense with these two guys doing their thing, though I'm certain opposition quarterbacks wouldn't!

                    2. LT in, Gordon out

Again I like Gordon, but LT was the premier running back in his day. He was a huge factor in the passing game and running game. Put him into a team in today's NFL and he would terrorize opposition defenses. It would also help our quarterback big time because he would have someone to lighten his load.

                    3. Junior Seau in, Perryman out

Another player I like going out, but Seau is a hall of fame player with a great history with us. He would instantly be the leader on this defense and would take our line backing core to the next level.

                    4. Nick Hardwick in, Spencer Pulley out

Hardwick was a great player for us. He would be an instant upgrade at the C position and if Feeney and Lamp realize their potential then our interior line would be very strong. Hardwick was also a great leader and motivator, so to add him to our O-Line and offense and team in general would be a huge boost.

                    5. Rodney Harrison in, Jahleel Addae out

I was torn between Harrison and Weddle but Harrison has the edge as far as I'm concerned.

                    Note

I have selected players I have seen play from my time as a Charger fan. There are players before that time that are worthy selections and even some from my time as a Chargers fan worthy of selection. But I think these five would give this team a big boost.
