Yep, teams' offensive players will feel like lightning hitting them. Too bad NFL rules are getting pussier and pussier every year, favoring offense and the QB. Our defense would be even greater in the 1990s.

That's the concern. Can these hitters play under control and will the new roles make what they do best illegal? I think they will be fine. None of them have displayed a tendency to play or hit out of control (like Addae used to)

I'm thinking that Jatavis Brown might not have a spot on this roster, unless he's used as EDGE only.

That is not where Brown has skills, unfortunately. He is an SS/LB type, just like what the Chargers have been drafting, which makes me wonder about his future and what happened to him.

He's too small for that hybrid position, and that's probably why he didn't play as much in the Bradley D.

Brown will continue his transition to Mike LB, just like he did last year.

We will still have a part-time 43 alignment with bigger bodies like a 43 used to use. We played that way 10-15 plays per game last year during the middle of the year. That is what got us the #1 red zone D in the NFL. One of our LB will have to step up and compete against Perryman, although he has the inside track to start at Mike in the dime. As far as the situational LB go, it will probably be
    OTTO -Nwosu/Emmanuel
    Mike - Pullard/Brown/Dzubnar
    Will - Perryman/Brown

We will spend most of our time in the dime package, just like we did last year. White will compete with Phillips to play the LB/S position, maybe even splitting time there. James will probably play SS and Addae probably moves to FS.

    Dime
    CB - Hayward/Davis
    SS - James/Jenkins
    Nickel - King/Watkins
    Mike - Perryman/Brown
    FS - Addae/Watkins
    Will(dime) - Phillips/White
    CB - Williams/Verrett

So you are matching Brown Perryman and Nwosu against teams 3 WR sets? Nice way to turn the D back to the 1970's.

I dont see Jones starting over Luiget or they would just trade him. Rochelle is going to get some playing time this year. Man on paper that defense dont look much different but adding James is big.....and we know Verrett will be on IR by week 4.

You forget Bolt that Luiget is suspended for the first 4 games.

I like that Tommy went with needs early on. The Bolts went in needing LBs and DTs and I think he did OK in addressing those needs. I still think another LB and DT wouldn't be bad to get in free agency.

Agreed, excellent draft for need. A RB would be a good addition.

I dont get why jatavis brown is not part of the plans on this defense he was great as a rookie and on paper fits the scheme perfectly at will linebacker. I like the Kyzir White pick but i anticipate they will play the same position so i guess well see.. as for jatavis being too light and playing the mike i dont agree with either of those statements, jatavis is 230 and we just drafted kyzir white to play linebacker who is 218 meanwhile he was losing time to hayes pullard off the street not perryman

Perhaps the "perfect fit on paper" just wasn't translating to production in practice or games. If he was the fit u believe, bradley would get him on the field. They are not willing to wait and brought in more competition.

Boston is already gone but we got too many DBs so who gets cut? Will King play CB? Michael Davis gets cut? Wouldn't mind that actually or will they trade Tin Man Verrett? The secondary is crowded.

Instead of carrying 6 to 8 LB, we will probably carry fewer of them too. We can cut that back to 5 or so, with Nwuso and Emmanuel providing some depth at DE too. We normally carry all those LB to play ST, but SS types are an even better fit. And we do have a FB and many TE to has some bigger bodies on ST. Plus, they don't play that much in the base D anyway.

King does not have the speed to play full tme on the outside. He is great in the role he is playing.
