If Perryman can get a bigger deal from another team with fewer incentives, or just more bonus, he is probably gone. His injury history is the kind of thing desperate teams with some cap space can rationalize their way through. They will take some risk because of how much better our D played when he came back from injury last year. If he does, he is probably gone. Other teams may offer more incentives, and since the Chargers typically don't do as much of that incentive stuff, that would give another path for him to leave.
Where the Chargers are at as a team, even if they do resign him, they need to draft a player or two who can push him. Any position that does not have an established, productive starter needs to. It's not personal, it's what is best for the team. The number one quality of any player has to be availability, particularly when he is the guy who calls the defensive signals.
Getting a LB is always a tradeoff. The positions is a series of tradeoffs. Fans want the do it all kind of players, and they just hardly exist. We just need to see who is available in FA, or the draft (which means on draft day(s)), and make the best picks. The "best" pick is going to be someone who has some kind of exceptional quality. What that quality will just depend on what TT and the scouts think maximizes the team's ability.
