Matters if Bosa wants a fat contract.

Does anyone think there's an IF there?
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

As long as the next one is with someone else. He turns 30 in April and is signed through 2021. I am not excited about a fat contract for a 32 y old pass rusher. My .02

Edge is a position we need to seriously consider a priority soon as well. If not this year, then next as i would like a year to polish and refine.

It depends on how fat the contract is. You can actually make some deals that are pretty good for both sides, provided the player is reasonable. No one minds (even the teams) if a player is still producing on a big contract. But things get tricky in the early 30's. And there are plenty of desperate teams who would love to overpay for a top pass rusher, even if it means ending his career early.

That is partly why I would like to spend some mid round picks on another OTTO/LEO type or two. Draft one per year, more or less. Doesn't have to be a high pick, but keep developing some in the pipeline, so that when the time comes, we can let them walk and not be totally screwed by it. Just mix and match the different body type/player types so that they compliment each other.

Mel may not be the greatest pass rusher in the NFL, but even he knows that his contract's peak value is this season. He is getting the most money he will get right now. It's all downhill after this.

You're talking about Melvin Ingram right? Because Bosa is only 23.

Yeah...that's what happen when you reply to a post about Bosa's contract and do not mention Ingram by name.

Just goes to show there is often more to the story when some guys are not resigned. I was puzzled when he was not retained -- relatively cheap, ascending player who the team developed. But maybe they saw warnings that off the field he might be a problem?
