    AAF Suspends All Operations

That didnt take long did it?

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reports the Alliance of American Football will suspend all football operations on Tuesday.

According to Florio, the league is not yet folding, but that looks like the only possible outcome. Earlier this week, majority owner Tom Dundon said the league would have to consider shuttering if the NFL Players Association refused to allow younger players on NFL rosters to play in the AAF. "If the players union is not going to give us young players, we can't be a development league," Dundon said. A source within the NFLPA told USA Today that allowing the AAF to use NFL players would violate the terms of the CBA and increase the safety risk. The AAF still had two weeks left in their inaugural and seemingly final regular season.

              This is shady...

              https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/1113123410215952386

Perception inside the AAF is that Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon bought a majority stake in the league simply for the gambling app being developed. Source: "Dundon got the technology he wanted and he's now minus one rather large headache."

I don't see how. Companies often aquire other companies for an specific asset they have and then disband or sell off the other parts. What's shady is how the aaf got here in the first place. They had to know the costs and know that revenue would be slow to build. It's a long game play and they weren't ready for it? That's shady.

Also, why would the NFL be reticent to have the AAF be a developmental league ?

                  ...the CBA.

Everything, FAs, prospects, contracts, takes the expiration of the CBA in the not too distant future into account.

Not all the members of the NFLPA are all that thrilled with more competition for their jobs. So the NFLPA is not exactly on board, even though more members would actually make the NFLPA look stronger.

NFL owners have always been lukewarm about a developmental league. It costs money, and the thought of allocating players that may then go on to play for another team isn't a thrilling prospect.

This is exactly the sort of league that players like Cardale Jones should be in right now, not on the bottom of an NFL roster where they never get to play in games. Add in the way college teams just don't develop fundamentals in some positions (OL, LB), it would be nice to see.

I think Cardale would still suck in the AAF. Bercovici sure does.
