Plenty of college players switch to a new position or switch sides when they move to the NFL. One example doesn't make it a mistake, in general. You take it one a guy by guy basis.

Sewell was pretty spot on... it will be difficult for the Chargers to go further in the playoffs w/ the talent at OL overall. If Okung or Pouncey gets dinged it is going to have a cascading effect. Of course, if Lamp actually plays the way the Draft Guru's thought he would and other guys step up... then you never know. The Patriots are able to do it every year no matter who they line up... so I wonder how much of it is coaching and scheme?.? The Bolts seem to have really bolstered the D over the past two drafts... so if it reaches elite status... then there will be some room for error on the O side of the ball. But every year that goes by makes me surer and surer that the key to winning a lot of games... especially in the playoffs... is a dominant OL.

Zach Martin was a LT in college, and is an all pro at RG in the NFL. Mitch Morse was also a tackle in college before becoming a center in the NFL. Our very own Dielman was on the DL before becoming an all pro LG for us. It does happen quite frequently.

On a somewhat related sidenote, who would have guessed that DJ Fluker would last longer at the guard position than Jonathan Cooper and Chance Warmack?

Well, its not offensive weapons: Chargers selected here to have the #2 ranked triplets on offense. And then there's Mike Williams & Hunter Henry. Chargers arguably with the most potent set of weapons in the NFL.

You'd have to go all the way back to the Don Coryell days (Brooks, Muncie, Winslow, Chandler, Joiner) to have more dynamic options on one Charger team.

If only the Oline comes together.

Mitch Morse is an interesting case. I think it helped that Andy Reid is a former Oline coach. I get the feeling that Chris Watt was not well served by the transition, & then the injury after a few games that ended his career effectively. Mike McCoy never could put together an Oline in a million years, unless he walked into the same situation as Norvell Turner.

I thought he did well with the transition until all the injuries. He had a couple of decent games against the Rams and Ravens before getting injured in 2014. Came back too early against the Patriots and it kind of went downhill. Only started 3 games the following season.

Biggest need is healthy, injury free players practicing. 2nd biggest, individual & group development & improvement. We have a nice mix of talent, experience & youth. Now, make it work. We struggled with lack of depth & talent on D in the 2018 postseason. That is not a current issue.
