Whitworth is an exception, wouldn't you say? Injuries add up over the years.

It depends on the type of player and what he does. Okung's injury issues may just be genetic and no matter how hard he works, he may not be able overcome them. On the other hand, I feel that guys who work hard and aren't injury prone can last a lot longer like Whitworth. And no, I don't necessarily think that 32 is that old.

My prediction is that Whitworth is about ready to begin the slide due to age.

Regarding Okung, the way it has all been framed means Okung is contemplating retirement, due to a reoccurring, chronic condition.

Okung has had a variety of injuries, high ankle sprain, torn bicep, groin, other no doubt, in the past.
He may decide to hang it up but no announcement indicates that he has not made that decision. As always, we'll see.
My guess is that he'll play if he feels good in the coming weeks.

he played 15 games last year and the year before. The nagging chronic, dare we say genetic inability to withstand the rigors of NFL life sound overblown to me. Could be absolutely nothing but not quite ready for OTAs and Lynn just kept him out to work the too-young guys and spare his body.

or it could be more. i'll worry when there is news.

Russell Okung is 30, not 32 years old. My mistake! My understanding is that he is coming into the fat part of his contract.

Here is something from Gavino Borquez who covers the team on losangeleschargers.com:

"It's unlikely that the injury is major and instead, they're just holding Okung out for the three days so that way he's ready to go for training camp at the end of July."

Maybe this thing is being blow out of proportion here.

                  Of course, dmac, pbb.

This was my thoughts. AL has stated that he plans to rest the experienced vets for hopefully better health at season's end. I assumed that would be Rivers, Mebane, Okung, Pouncey, Ingram, Hayward, Allen, etc. Guys who've proved themselves and/or have had multiple injury over the years.

Maybe the team should give better information to the fans.
