The NFLPA has been reluctant to stretch the regular season beyond its current 16-game schedule due to injury concerns, but putting a cap on how many games a player can suit up for would be a fair compromise. Per Beaton, extending the regular season by two games could increase league revenue by $2.5 billion while potentially adding $15 million to each team's salary cap. Choosing when to sit players would also add an interesting layer to coaching decisions. It's unclear how much (if any) traction this idea has, but it's not the worst idea the NFL has ever come up with.

The NFLPA wouldn't even work a deal with the AAF, so they sure as hell wouldn't go along with something like this.

This is just the owners floating ideas before the inevitable strike at the end of 2020. It won't see the light of day.

Im actually not a fan of reducing the pre season games. Teams like us who build through the draft often find gems and a lot of times its because they get a decent amount of playing time across 4 games. I dont even know if this current proposition mentions reducing the pre season to 2 games but its been brought up alot outside of this forum. And i think there are a lot of guys playing in the NFL who may not have had the chance without these 4 pre season games.

Lots of things have to happen if players can only play 16/18 games. Practice squads need to be expanded. You have guys that teams will release after they play those 2 games. PK/P/LS

Im not opposed to increasing the size of rosters and active rosters though. I think there are a lot of players who miss out who are close to being good enough to play in the league. I think of soccer across the globe and how many guys rise through the ranks of various leagues. I guess in a way that is what is so special about the NFL. It really is a limited group of people in the world that can do this. But so many would be studs if they had the chance to develop. AAF was a good start. But the NFL needs to do something to expand it a little more to accomodate the development side of it.

I'm anti- 18 game reg season. I want quality play, nor a death march.
