POLL: Should the Bolts sign a FA CB?

FA CB anyone? Here's the list:

Chargers cornerback Michael Davis was hampered with a hamstring injury during Sunday's victory over the Colts.

Davis is expected to miss some time and Trevor Williams' timeframe on his return is unknown, which means that Los Angeles only has three active corners on the roster.

The Bolts could elect to keep Brandon Facyson as a starter, but after his performance yesterday and his inexperience in the starting role, the thought of it is a bit worrisome.

Coach Anthony Lynn said that they're looking into making a move, so we thought we would list some free agent cornerbacks that Los Angeles could look into signing.

With that, here are six that could garner their attention:

    Sam Shields
Shields most recent season came with the Rams in 2018. He appeared in every game, while posting two starts with Los Angeles. Aside from dealing with concussion concerns the past two campaigns, Shields has still been efficient. Shields has posted 265 tackles, 19 interceptions and 70 passes defensed since signing with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2010.

    Briean Boddy-Calhoun
Boddy-Calhoun was a key contributor in the Browns' defense in 2018, where he amassed 56 tackles and two passes defensed. Cleveland elected to not re-sign, which led him to the Texans this spring. Boddy-Calhoun was unable to beat out Johnathan Joseph or Bradley Roby for a final spot, so Houston let him go on cutdown day. In 43 games played, he has amassed 132 total tackles, 19 passes defensed, three interceptions, one defensive touchdown, one forced fumble, and one sack. Boddy-Calhoun, who's only 26, has plenty of juice left in the tank.

    David Amerson
In a surprising fashion, the Cardinals released Amerson back in June. The move was shocking because the Cardinals' cornerback depth was also belittled. Signed by Arizona last November, Amerson amassed 21 tackles, two passes defensed and an interception in the five games he started. In six seasons, Amerson has played in 74 games, with 64 of those being starts.

    Orlando Scandrick
Scandrick played in 15 games for the Chiefs in 2018, starting seven, and finishing with 44 tackles, 13 passes defended and one interception. Scandrick was signed by the Eagles this summer. While he impressed in preseason, it wasn't enough to solidify himself with a deep positional group. Scandrick, 32, would provide the Bolts with some veteran experience as he has 140 games and 76 starts under his belt.

    Brent Grimes
The Chargers are not afraid to bring in a player who's getting up there in age. Grimes, 36, is one that could be considered who isn't the youngest. Grimes tallied 48 tackles, one forced fumble and six passes defensed across 13 games in 2018, which was the first time he failed to record an interception for the first time since 2012. This would be the four-time Pro Bowler's 14th season, but Grimes has no intention of hanging up his cleats.

    Wild Card: Teez Tabor
Tabor's two-year stint with the Lions came to an end a few weeks ago after he was let go on cutdown day. A second-round selection in 2017, Tabor failed to produce in the two seasons that he was with the Lions. Even with the addition of the defensive guru Matt Patricia, they were unable to get much out of the former Florida product. Tabor showed in college that he can play the position efficiently, but it will take a bit of coaching to get him up to NFL pace. Would defensive backs coach Ron Milus be able to do it in a short period of time?

They only gave up 198 receiving yards last week. The poll could just as easily be looking for someone who can tackle in the box - which is where they got trucked for 175 yards rushing.

No need to panic just yet ... if there's a value guy thats not expensive sitting out there, i dont mind kicking tires but lets not get crazy.

Ya hard to say at this point. It's early. But on the other hand, maybe they would have torched us even more had they thrown more. We didn't seem strong against either the run or the pass IMO.

Hope TT is looking at options either way. I don't want to have to rely on our offense putting up 30 or more weekly.

Jacoby Brisset was able to get key 3rd down drives moving as a result of Brandon Facyson what is Facyson going to look like when we go against a top tier QB? I would go with Briean Boddy-Calhoun.

If Facyson is even the answer temporarily then I'd say yes, we need to go out of house and fast. The defense sunday was alarmingly bad

                NO

Facyson made the team as a UDFA last year. He's a 3rd string CB, someone you try to develop. I don't know why everyone is expecting him to play at a starting level. Mike Davis made the team as a UDFA the year before, and Trevor Williams made the team as a UDFA a year before that.

No need to have a knee-jerk reaction here. Every NFL team is going to have a star WR get receptions, yards, and touchdowns against the other teams #1 CB's. Keenan Allen had 8 Rec, 123 Yds, and 1 TD. T.Y. had 8 Rec, 87 Yds, and 2 TD's, 1 of which was just due to poor tackling between Phillips and Davis, not Facyson.

Facyson had 7 tackles and 2 assists. Only Davis and White had the same or more. At least he's tackling and not whiffing. The Colts other 2 WR's; Funchess 3/5 Rec for 32 Yds, and Cain 2/2 Rec for 35 Yds.

Let's be honest, the Colts have a great O-line, and any good QB behind that line is going to have time to make throws. Picking on Facyson is typical play calling. I wonder how much time Facyson had to prepare and practice with the 1's?

Let's not over-react to this and try and bring on an older, slower CB who has no experience in our system and has to learn it on the fly. You keep a CB like Facyson for these situations where Davis and Williams are both hurt, so you don't have to go dumpster diving. Facyson is a fine band-aid who will develop and get better.

The run defense not improving from last year is the bigger concern.

They've certainly can't go into Sunday with 3.

Nice post. Facsyon had pretty good coverage in general, but got burned on very accurate back shoulder throws. ONce he fell down but still had tight coverage. He is a good developmental corner (which is what he is SUPPOSED to be at this point)
