Seems like if Spanos struggles for too long in the LA market. Then Kroenke would ask the other NFL owners to push Spanos into selling the team.

Spanos needs to get creative, but he did not buy the team through creativity as a businessman, he inherited the team. So i doubt he has what it takes.

Browns went to Baltimore and became Ravens.
Chargers should have went to LA and became the Dragons or something else. Left the Chargers in San Diego.

Then during year 1 , all the San Diego Chargers mis speak by announcers and the new HC would not have happened...because no one would have been thinking Chargers. There would be no Charger helmet or Jersey to look at and accidentally say San Diego Chargers. Everytime that happened, it was sad. Nobody wants to be a part of sad & old and buy season ticket for some other City's team.

But if it had a Dragon or something else on the helmet. It would be easier for LA football fans to think we have a new football team for our city. And new is exciting.

Spanos has a history of very questionable football decisions. And as of yet none of the decisions have led to a championship. Team has a history of most talented team to not make postseason. A Top QB not able to make Superbowl. Chargers are gonna Charger as long as Spanos is in Charge of her.

Who has it better than us?

They'll be lucky to get 50K for those games with probably 60% being opposing fans and I've been saying this from the beginning of this Spani move.

Fuck the NFL in so many ways.

Spanos may have to take on a deep pockets partner if they have problems, like the way Georgia F. did when she got Kroenke and they moved to St.L.
We saw how that ended up.

            Right.

Win a championship or 2 and the fans will come. Otherwise, there are simply better things to do in so cal on a Sunday than watch a '' choker team '' that occasionally comes close and fails for most people. Of course the loyal fans like us will always be there, but there are simply not enough of those when you have all the attractions of so cal availabe. You have to build some legacy. At least one championship in LA is required IMO.

The other side is cost of tickets and opposing fans willing to pay much more than the locals for the tickets. Brokers know this too. There is profit to be made.

So the real question is '' do the Spanos have what it takes to build a winner ''? So far the answer seems to be that they have come close but have proven they can't get us over the hump.

                Basically, yes!

The difference being that in San Diego the Chargers announced they were leaving and were a crappy team.

I find your reasoning weak. Congrats, you epitomize fair weather fandom. I just experienced a terrible losing franchise, improve, choke in playoffs repeatedly and finally win a championship. The Toronto Raptors, My hockey team has not won in my lifetime, and I am almost 50. Both have amazing fan bases even when they are not good and the ticket prices are high AF. I guess Toronto just has better sports fans.

Had the chargers won, then been a middling Team for a decade, they still woulda have had no support even though they had "won". Congrats for keeping the Padres and building them a stadium. We all know they are a shining light of how franchises should be run and have such a storied history.

:salute:Chargers have had very few really bad teams or eras. There are a LOT of pro franchises with way worse histories of losing with eras of futility and have had strong support.

San Diego Chargers had 4 bad team eras (& 4 good team eras)

                        1. early/middle 70's: 70 through 77 ( followed by 5 good years)
                        2. middle/late 80's: 83 through 91 (followed by 4 good years)
                        3. late 90's/early 2000's 97 through 2003 (followed by 6 good years)
                        4. late Norv/late McCoy era: 2011 - 2012 & 2015 - 2016 (the end)

That's 15 good years over the final 37 years of the franchise in San Diego...team still had support until they said they would move.

rams could not even sell out playoff games last year and they made it ti SB.....

BUT.....every new stadium that has been built;t has been sold out its first few years just because its the "hip" place to go eat and drink even if the teams suck.....
