Win a championship or 2 and the fans will come. Otherwise, there are simply better things to do in so cal on a Sunday than watch a '' choker team '' that occasionally comes close and fails for most people. Of course the loyal fans like us will always be there, but there are simply not enough of those when you have all the attractions of so cal availabe. You have to build some legacy. At least one championship in LA is required IMO.
The other side is cost of tickets and opposing fans willing to pay much more than the locals for the tickets. Brokers know this too. There is profit to be made.
So the real question is '' do the Spanos have what it takes to build a winner ''? So far the answer seems to be that they have come close but have proven they can't get us over the hump.
A Championship or multiple Championships are needed to capture some of the LA Market.
Like it or not SD is a loser sports city. LA is not. The Bolts need to win one Championship or maybe 2 in the next 3-5 years to become a "player" in the LA sports market.
SoCal is not like Cleveland, KC, GB, Pitt, Buffalo, Baltimore, etc.My 2021 Adopt-A-Bolt List

And you mean 75 years ago when major sports 1st moved in to LA.
I would expect if there was already NBA & MLB teams, the Dodgers & Lakers would not have been as welcomed.
Not exactly the same thing.
Chargers are like the Clippers. No Championships.
LA did not want them and they are a tenat with the more popular team.
Chargers could move to a city that never had NFL and then they would be closer to what the Lakers did.
Who has it better than us?

Been lurking here but the Chargers have little following in LA. If the Rams win a SB, and they seemed better positioned to do so, then the Chargers will become even more irrelevant in the city than they are already are. I do think the league wishes they could go back in time and have done more to ensure the Chargers stayed in San Diego but I don't see a way out for them now. Spanos is stuck in LA and the league s stuck with the Chargers in LA. Once they move to the big stadium at least there will not be any blimp shots to show how poorly their games are attended. Per the agreement, Spanos cannot sell the team for 10 years after the move and the window to a return to SD is closing rather quickly with the SDSU West project.

We are definitely the clippers as opposed to the Lakers. Diego is a curse for franchise start ups.My 2021 Adopt-A-Bolt List

The Chargers have trouble selling out a 27k seat stadium coming off a 12-4 season with a playoff win. Imagine if the crap we are seeing on the field continues and we end up around .500. It will be ugly and we'll see how the league responds to 40k crowds when 25k are fans of the opposing team.

The entire LA move has been a garbage fire from day one. From the stupid marketing slogan to the terrible environment at the soccer stadium and everything in between. LA sports fans could give a shit about the Chargers and the way they piss away games isn't making new fan's.
