At this point you don’t bench Rivers. There is no point, the season is over and it won’t change a thing. If you’re ready to move on from rivers than you wait until the off season.

The time to save the season is over.

And anyone one who thinks this is all rivers fault, needs to rewatch the film, he was rushed and harassed like crazy. The last throw was under duress, this oline and the incompetence that put it together should be held accountable.

That being said Rivers is not the QB to play behind this Swiss cheese.

Great post and yes it’s in his head he’s a mess. He’s old and doesn’t trust his oline not a good combination. Amazing considering what this team did last year.

Continuing to play Rivers in a hopeless season when you know you are going to move on from him makes no sense, when you have a 30 year old veteran still in his prime who has led a team to the playoffs before and a rookie who has shown enough promise you have tied up a roster spot the entire season to keep him. What does continuing to play Rivers accomplish?

We don't know that they plan to move on from Rivers though. If he plays the last 5 games of the year like the past 2 that would make the decision much easier. But if he takes a deep breath and composes himself during the bye and plays well down the stretch, they could decide to go with him for 1 or 2 more years while grooming his replacement.

What does does pulling Rivers accomplish other than spite?

Stick isnt the future and if you wanted to argue that Taylor could win us some games, what’s the point now? Rivers is a better QB than Taylor and the only reason you start Taylor is because you know your oline is bad and you feel like you can move him around more and maybe save your season.

Let’s face facts, we aren’t saving this season.

It’s amazing what Rivers looks like when Okung plays. He trusts him and knows that he doesn’t have to worry about his blind side. Rivers knows himself and understands he isn’t mobile enough to avoid unblocked blindside pressure.

Not to mention 3 separate times attempted runs at the 6 yrd line that went for zilch. Against a Chiefs team not exactly known for run stopping ability this year.
It was horrible to witness the clog that happened each time. Okung not playing was missed big time.

How do you know Stick or Taylor aren't the future? The only way to find that out it is to let them play. And with the Chargers eliminated from the post season and five games left to play, the team does have that opportunity to see if the what they have behind River is the future. That isn't spite, it's good business. If they had already decided Stick for example was not the future, they wouldn't have kept him as the No. 3 QB, using up a roster spot that was badly needed to deal with injuries this season. They obviously see something in Stick. Give him an opportunity, along with Taylor, to prove whether they are the future, or not.

Its Gardner Minshew time. Hope we get him in the offseason. You think he wouldn't be fired up to learn behind another east coaster like Philip?

Another highly productive QB out of Wazzu will be available in this upcoming draft. That system under Lynch is good for QBs at that level.

If taylor is the mediocrity you want leading this team into the future than count me out. Hes a great 33rd qb but thats it. Stick seems raw and may be good but lets be real, he was drafted in the 5th round for a reason. He may Tom Brady but he is much much much more likely to fizzle. If you're going to move on from Rivers 100% and not resign him (which I think is a mistake) than you start start stick in these meaningless games.

On a side note, How bad is that Taylor Signing looking now. Instead of addressing a glaring depth need we put millions of dollars in a high quality backup qb to hold the clipboard behind the active all time start streak leader. Jesus if that doesn't tell you how bad the front office is I dont know what does. Their thought process "Instead of investing in some Veteran Oline help to push our young players and help build quality depth at a critical position, lets spend a huge chunk of our off season cap on a backup to one of the most durable QB's ever to play the game..."

Taylor wasnt a bad signing. He is a good backup which we never had, signed to a 2 year deal. Stick is around on the roster because he can possibly be a good backup....and a cheap one when Taylors deal runs out.
We already know Tyrod isnt the future. He isnt some rookie who hasnt started. He is 30 and has his chances.
