People have been saying the rams have been mortgaging the future the last 5 years.
Are the Rams even a top 10 team? They failed to produce a top 10 record despite playing a third place schedule, the NFCE, the Jets, and a very injured 49ers team twice.

Were they really any better than the 9-7 team that played a first place schedule in 2019? To me, given their salary cap predicament ($35M over plus several of their own free agents needing to be addressed), their lack of first round picks for the next three seasons, and only acquiring a mid level QB in Stafford (not a top 10 QB), this looks like a team on the way down from the 13-3 2018 team.

I suspect at least one of those picks given to Detroit will be a non-playoff, mid level pick.

The mishandling of Goff has been impressive. First, they traded away tons of draft pick capital to select him. Then, they gave him a huge contract. And now they are giving up lots of draft capital for no meaningful upgrade to get out from under the bad contract (which Detroit can escape with no dead money after the 2022 season).

The gamble taken by the Rams is neither on greatness, nor at the right time.

Why Cal McNair would have promised Watson any sort of input on issues beyond Watson's role with the team and/or area of demonstrated expertise in the first instance is mind boggling. His father had it right all along. The players do not control NFL managerial matters. The owners and executives do.

And why McNair, having made his ill advised promise to Watson, would not have just listened politely and then later ignored Watson's input to keep his promise after that is equally baffling. Had he done so, he could have explained to Watson that the team considered the coach or GM that Watson suggested and even interviewed him, but ultimately went in a different direction. Then, Cal McNair could have commended Watson on his fine input and moved forward with everyone feeling at least somewhat positive about the experience.

The issue seems like it could have been easily avoided...unless Watson is falsely feigning offense to force his way off of a bad team and would have trumped up something else as his excuse in the absence of the issue that Cal McNair apparently dropped in his lap.

Hate to defend horrible ownership in Houston but Watson is being disingenuous in this situation
and using optics to leverage his way out of a bad team, and that’s really why he’s leaving, it’s because it’s a bad team and he doesn’t want to spend his prime years developing it.
he has been relatively quite until now because he knows deep inside this is a football character issue at heart, now he’s going to point at all the dysfunction that was there even prior to when he signed his contract
and that’s my issue with him
I wouldn’t blame him if not for the interesting timing of when he decided to sign his big contract

I see a pattern of narcissistic behaviors dating back to when a video was “leaked” of him “turning the other cheek” as he walked away from some aggressive ad threatening Alabama fans. I too would have admired such a mature gesture if not for the fact that Watson initially decided to celebrate his championship over the crimson tide AT an Alabama bar!

schmuck back then and apparently hasn’t matured since.

just my opinion but I feel strongly about it.

I don't feel sorry for him. He could of turned down that contract to go where he wanted. Still can if he wants to pay back,... What was it,... 21 million? Hope he didn't spend it all lol.

If you take 2020 and 2021 seasons togheter, it will be a real carousel of QBs.
