Obviously those 2 throws are the real advantage he has over Herbert and the number of other starting QBs that aren’t playing in preseason come the regular season.

Bruce Arians say no starters will play next preseason game. If Tom Brady and the Super Bowl champs don’t need their starters to play in preseason… Maybe this Staley guy is on to something…..

I don’t think anybody here was advocating for Staley to play the starters in every preseason game. The usual tradition is for the starters to play in the first qtr or half of the first game and then play maybe just a few plays in the 2nd one and then not at all in the 3rd and 4th games. But since there is no 4th game, they would only play in the first one.

Brady and the Bucs are also not incorporating a completely brand new offense into the team.

Regardless, I’m with you. After the Slater injury in practice, I don’t understand why Staley has the starters practicing during the practices. Even last few years, many of our injuries happened during practice. Obviously the right way to go about this is to never have the starters practice and rather give them a VR screen in which they can emulate a real practice.

Since that's who you're talking about, Newton and Jones are in competition for the QB1 spot. They need to determine who wins and each one is injury insurance for the other.
